Most likely the charter company is based in Providence, or uses it as a starting point.. 30 minutes of so to TF Green from HC. Anybody friends with Robert Kraft? He has a couple of planes he lends out on occasion.

Was about to post this but see many got to the computer before me.
While I'm out no matter what the bid, I did ask a player what day and time they are going as I would like to wish them luck at the airport which is only about 15 minutes from my house. If I find out, anyone else want to join me?

The runway is probably longer as PVD extended the runway a few years ago so flights can be made cross country. When I flew to the west coast, always had to stop at O'Hare, Pittsburgh or Charlotte not because large planes couldn't take off but if fully fueled for a cross country trip the planes were too heavy for the length of the runway. Now they fly to Ireland and the west coast. Haven't flown out of Worcester in decades but believe the runway might be too short to go direct to Sioux Falls. Most importantly, as stated above, the airline taking them is probably has facilities at PVD. Our teams have often flown out of T.F. Green. Lastly, because it's convenient for me.

However, Allegiant is often used for team charters and they operate commercial flights out of Providence.

I didn't mean a charter airline, I meant an airline that the College/NCAA might charter. Question of semantics.

Having given this some additional thought, maybe the athletic department instead of auctioning off the plane/bus/hotel/ticket package with a minimum $7,500 bid for a package they valued at roughly $2K, perhaps they could have instead showed support for the Season Ticket Members and had a raffle for any Season Ticket Member if they paid $50 for each chance. Might not have made more money but would have showed they appreciated the loyalty of the fans that they speak about often. Just a thought. Maybe for the next game after we beat the Jackrabbits?

Hmmm. I just clicked on the link for the auction to see if they got any bids and got a message saying there are no auctions.
Did they pull the plug or did the deadline pass and someone won it.

You have to love the Cross, these players, AND have pots of money to burn.
On another note, I'd love to get down to Williamsburg next week if all works out! IIRC, there is even a train from Richmond to W&M's campus if one is interested.

At most you got to think HC has 500 season ticket holders...Not everyone is buying that ticket so let's say half buy one that is only 12,500.

Not sure of the outcome, but the deadline was scheduled for around midday today I got on the website one minute before the deadline, and there were no bidders. I waited until time expired, and there were still no bidders. I got off the website, and then got on again a few minutes later. I received the same message saying there were no auctions. There were no bidders on this auction.

Definitely would have been more successful if they had sold raffle tickets for $25 each and picked a winner. That way you’re getting many more people involved and allowing the non-rich to win the experience. And you’d raise plenty of money.

It is entirely possible that they simply converted this from a fundraising event to a stewardship opportunity and a loyal donor and guest will be sitting in those seats instead.

I would almost guarantee that...it actually costs the school nothing (except maybe the cost of the hotel rooms depending on how they originally reserved, but its possible they blocked off a hall or wing and had spare rooms they had to pay for)

I’d have to think that the NCAA has restrictions on selling the extra seats on the plane. NCAA probably demands $$$ for any seats used by anyone other than players and coaches.
I wonder why we set a floor of $7500 for the two seats when the listed “value” was so much lower. I’ll bet if HC had set a floor of $2000 then someone would have gone higher than that….

I’d have to think that the NCAA has restrictions on selling the extra seats on the plane. NCAA probably demands $$$ for any seats used by anyone other than players and coaches.- I'm not so sure...its the same cost to the NCAA whether HC puts a body in the 2 extra seats or not, and may just become too much paperwork to police...that said, it is the NCAA, so I wouldn't necessarily be surprisedI wonder why we set a floor of $7500 for the two seats when the listed “value” was so much lower. I’ll bet if HC had set a floor of $2000 then someone would have gone higher than that…. I can think of a few reasons. One is discretion, you get a pretty intimate view into the football team, its players, and its operations, you don't want anybody buying their way on there. Two, in conjunction with one, is value to the team/school. Perhaps ideally they do not want any "outsiders" in this part of the trip...but at a certain price, they have to compromise their wishes with what is best for the program. Three, also in conjunction with 1, is exclusivity, you don't want someone to get on for cheap and conduct themselves in such a manner that they may be a distraction to the team. The higher the cost, the less of a concern that is. Putting those concerns aside, if you wanted to attract widescale bidding, you could have just opened it up at $0, no need to even go to $2,000 for an opening bid, because I suspect accomodating the winning bidder costs HC very little-plane likely paid for, tix likely comped (and even if not, they are less than $100), hotel room may already have been reserved, busses already needed, etc.

I agree that the NCAA is not likely to look to get money back for any extra passengers. They are likely paying for the plane, fuel and ancillary costs (baggage, gate fees, etc.) and I'm sure it's a flat amount and I can almost guarantee that most teams have at least a few hangers-on. I suspect there may be some family members on the flight depending on how many extra seats and where the family is from. Obviously Derek Ng's family in Vegas won't be on the flight. Peter Oliver's Dad, for example, is a sure thing and probably his fellow student-sister and Mom. HC may charge the Mom & sister a nominal fee. The more I think about it, the more I think that while the HC Athletics Dept thought they were being creative with the auction, the more I think they missed a real chance to help solidify a loyal fan base (I really like my raffle idea for season ticket "members"). I suspect that they got someone who money was no object and might have said "I'll give you $25K, $50K or $100K for the honor of going with the team if you just close down the auction. I'm giving you one bid but it's take it or leave it right now." I expect t be at the airport to say good luck to a few of the players that I've come to know over the last couple of years and told them to look for my poster I created (new avatar). I won't get pushy on the subject but might find out what happened with the auction. If I don't report out it means one of 3 things: 1. for any number of reasons (covid, for one), I couldn't get to the airport 2. I couldn't find out anything 3. I found out all kinds of details but they swore me to secrecy
