If you ask Rice what they pay for an FCS team to visit - they might say 'we'll provide free orange slices at halftime' - this idea is a total loser as it would only be expenses and no income - they draw flies Rice is just one example of potential FBS teams with higher quality academic standards to be on the schedule in the future. There are areas that we recruit in that this approach would help with recruiting. for example Chicago Alumna would pack the house if we played Northwestern (Big Money Game) also helps recruiting the area. Tulane would be in the discussion as well. Colgate played Stanford last year (big money game). Don't worry about attendance the money still flows.

The geography of the OOC FBS opponents and the payday and the chance of a win are all more important to me than the average SAT scores.

Rice has an $8BN endowment--guess little of that makes its way to the athletics budget

Rice has an $8BN endowment--guess little of that makes its way to the athletics budget Endowments don't work like that--many of these gifts are restricted to a particular school (engineering, humanities) or research effort. That said, the Rice athletic budget is just $42 million compared to $138 million at TCU and $156 million at Stanford. There has long been an institutional paralysis at Rice over what to do with athletics going back to the last years of the Southwest Conference.

No big deal fellas, just using Rice as an example I agree with your point about money being available to FBS teams for buy games separate from attendance revenue. Between corporate sponsorship, stadium signage, media deals, conference revenue share, luxury boxes/boooster club membership, etc., these teams can count on a base level of income before they open the gates. Rice, UMASS, UConn might be on the low end but they still get more than most FCS and I assume a UMass receives payment when they travel to a P-5 OOC game.

Forget FBS, FCS, power conferences, etc., etc.
I would assume that for any situation when it’s not a intra-conference regular home and home game that the home team pays the visiting team’s expenses. Excepting of course other home and home games like HC playing Harvard or Yale because the presumed offsetting expenses.

Worcester to East Hartford is 60 miles on a bus. There was much more than expenses in the $475,000 UConn paid HC. That's a lot of nutmeg. Unfortunately I don't think BC and Army can run up huge deficits like UConn has, so I think their payments will be less.

Didn't mean a "pay" game but rather those run of the mill games of roughly equal teams in which I would guess the home team pays, at minimum, the reasonable expenses for the visiting team (obviously negotiated). Rumored basketball games against St. John's and Georgetown, do you think Holy Cross is eating the travel expenses? As much as we'd want to play them, don't you think Kit/NADII are negotiating with them to cover the bus/plane travel. likely hotel and meals in DC? Recall back in the RW days, I had a source at PC who said HC was offered a 2 for 1 (yeah, we get the 1 in the DCU) OR, PC would pay HC to play in the then Dunk (since rechristened Amica Mutual Pavilion). Ralph (or Dick?) wanted the money for a new floor in the Hart so we went with the latter. If we start playing Merrimack in whatever sport, if they are not home and home (probably will be), if just them coming to Fitton or the Hart, you know we'll have to cover their expenses . . . . . unless, of course, it's at Polar Park and we'll let the WooSox take care of it.

It appears somebody negotiated a two (at Fitton) for one (at Merrimack) for our inaugrial three game football series. Don't know if that will be balanced out in future games, if Merrimack gets more home hockey games, or what. But this type of horse trading makes sense.
A home game at Fitton Field is a premium event compared to games in the cozy confines at Merrimack, Bryant, Stonehill, etc. I generally like the equity of home and home but you also have to go where the fannies are. Would love to see a Bryant or Merrimack host us at Polar so HC can play an away game in the Woo and still show tribute to EBW.

Do you have any feel for what this thread is? Holy Cross football schedule. What does it have to do with Rice women's basketball? Oh yeah you having nothing negative to say about the football teams success so you bring up irrelevant points. Go back to complaining about Polar Park.

The title of this thread is about the 2023 HOLY CROSS football schedule. Did you miss that? Nothing wrong with any discussion about Rice in future years as a possible opponent. but why not give it a separate thread under that title?

Heard possibly ESPN as well. May as well get College Gameday to Chestnut Hill. I'd like to see a little Veterans Day Gameday at West Point. Especially if we were a top-10 FCS team at the time (I'm hoping for top 5!)

While it would never happen, if Captain Kelley USN were to appear on the HC sideline in uniform, then every cadet and every member of the US Army in uniform proximate to him would salute him. IIRC, the protocol does not require a salute if one is not in uniform. Otherwise, regardless of an individual's rank, he would receive a salute. Again IIRC, the salute is initiated when one is close enough to observe his medal. I assume that if he were to stroll by the Corps of Cadets, the brigade commander and the regimental commanders would call the Corps to attention, and render the salute.
