Massey makes Holy Cross a 5 point favorite (60-55) over Vermont with a 64% chance for the win. The VT Catamounts currently have a record of 6-4 and play Sacred Heart before coming to Worcester. The game is scheduled for 10:30 am and I imagine will be the one with many Worcester elementary schools kids in attendance. The volume and energy of the crowd can be a factor in supporting the Crusaders.

The game is secluded for 10:30 am and I imagine will be the one with many Worcester elementary schools kids in attendance. The volume and energy of the crowd can be a real factor in supporting the Crusaders. They moved that game up from 11am....makes for a longer day for me.

It's better for the kids to be able to stay for the whole game than for you to sleep in. In previous years kids would be filing out during the second half due to school schedule constraints.

I agree...I just had the game in my schedule for 11am. I think the last time I had to cover a "school" field trip game it went to OT and the place was empty at the end. It just gives me more time to get to my main gig that day.

If UConn continues to lose a player a week, it might be closer than you think. Only 7 in uniform for their loss to Maryland. Their starting point guard was headed to a JUCO before a last-minute offer from Geno when he had no backup point guard.

These ain’t Michael Graham’s Georgetown Hoyas.

Whom did they lose this week ? Was there someone else after Fudd ? The injuries thus far I can think of: Paige (ACL - out for season) Ice Brady (knee dislocation - out for season) Fudd (knee - 3-6 weeks) Ducharme (neck - missed a few games early and started slow but back now) Muhl - concussion Lopez-Senechal - (foot - missed end of ND game but played against Maryland) Juhasz (broken thumb - has missed the last 3-4 weeks or so) Patterson, Edwards, Bettencourt, DeBerry and Griffin are the only ones with no known injuries thus far. Of those, Edwards is the only one who was projected to start before all the injuries started over the summer with Paige. Ossining’s own Aubrey Griffin has been very good after dealing with her own serious injuries the last few years.

Geno and Bill Belichick. The aura of invincibility is gone but who in their right mind walks away from those salaries and national acclaim if they don't have to?
I think Geno has slipped less than Bill. The debate over whether it was Bill or Tom has been settled for now but one more ring for Bill and it will be reignited.
A debate of whether it was Geno or CD is an interesting one. There is no way to prove any national championships would have been won if it was Geno and Sue or Geno and Mary instead of Geno and Chris Dailey as Head Coach and Associate HC.

I don't think Geno has slipped much, if at all. With a healthy roster, they would be no worse than #2 in the nation. Next year they will be a strong contender for the national championship if they stay healthy. And he has a very good recruiting class arriving in the fall.

Will this thread get back to the HC women vs Vermont at any point or should I start a new thread?

Will this thread get back to the HC women vs Vermont at any point or should I start a new thread? In a battle between Queens of the OOC schedule in both the PL and AE, the Crusaders will smoke the Catamounts in front of a couple of thousand small screaming meemees. OK we're back on point.

I wish all the pundits in that crowd talking about CD would just give Geno his due. He's the best coach ever in women's hoops. Is there another head coach out there that media/commentators/announcers single out and points to the lead assistant as the key reason for the success? Or make the suggestion that the success doesn't happen without the assistant? Nope. Just for Geno.

There are a lot of factors, but the coaches are clearly at the top of the list. When it comes to women's basketball, Auriemma had won multiple national championships before ESPN even knew the UConn program existed. But there is one TV network that does deserve part of the credit, i.e. CPTV. CPTV televised virtually every UConn women's game to the entire state of CT for decades, as well as Auriemma's own show and many specials about the program. It produced their biggest ratings and their largest donations, and created a following all over a state that had no pro teams.

It produced their biggest ratings by a wide margin and produced a following all over a state that had no pro teams. UConn won their first title in 1995 and the Whalers left town in 1997. Last I knew, Hartford Whalers were a pro team that played in the NHL.

Yup. UConn really boosted by ESPN. That's why UConn football is such a powerhouse. LOL.

I don’t know how much of a debate there is about Geno and CD but I was a receptive consumer of it the first time I encountered it. I found Geno abrasive and CD personable in interviews when I first started following the Husky women during the 1999-2000 championship season when Sue Bird was a sophomore. I wondered if Geno would have even lasted long enough to build his championship program if he didn't have CD along to smooth things over after he riled them up. Like anything else, after seeing what an excellent coach Geno was and all the championships I got used to him and found him more likeable than Jim Calhoun. Geno scheduled Holy Cross until we said "Uncle" while Calhoun ducked us. So I'm fine with Geno these days but also appreciate CD and suspect she's been a strong contributor to building the program.
