Montana State played as if they were skittish, given the field conditions. Tentative and often out of position.
Of the eight top teams in ebg's final poll, the head coaches of three have left: Sacramento State, Incarnate Word, and Weber State.

The field conditions were a bit difficult for both teams, but I agree Montana State played tentatively during the game
Last night Incarnate Word reminded me of a more athletic version of Fordham in the way the spread and attacked

NC Central wins. JSU dropped the tying TD on third and goal. Wide open. No FCS team will have fewer losses than our Crusaders this year.

The results of the FCS playoffs to date seem to support the comments of many posters that HC was underseeded. Quite frankly, I think that the bigger factor in our ability to proceed past the third round next year than seeding will be the health of the team going into the playoffs, particularly Sluka and Dobbs. Dobbs has missed the last 3 halves of the 2021 and 2022 playoff losses and I think that a plausible argument can be made that we win either or both of those games if he had been able to play at full strength.
Of course, I realize that injuries will occur and that there is limited ability to avoid them but, in Sluka’s performance this year, we can see the impact that a “difference maker” has on the game, particularly against a higher seeded opponent, and I suggest that Dobbs has been and is that similar “difference maker” on D.
In 2023, give me a playoff berth of any kind (even an at large berth) with a healthy Sluka and Dobbs and I like our chances to advance past the quarterfinals.

Lawd help The Word and the Bison. The PL officials botched a UIW fumble recovery. The announcers were befuddled. "What were they looking at?" All I could think of was that the replay they were watching showed the ball on the ground in the hands of a NDSU player and someone from UIW took it away. So the play was dead because the NDSU guy was on the ground himself. Any ruling that the player who fumbled had already touched the ground w/his knee or arm was ludicrous and flat out malpractice by the head referee.

Please stop…They were not “Patriot League” officials. As noted, the Patriot League is in an alliance of several leagues and conferences that have a pool of officials that are assigned to observe and manage the play of the game. patriotleague.org/news/2019/2/20/football-patriot-league-joins-football-officiating-alliance-and-announces-jeff-cooney-as-supervisor-of-football-officials.aspx?path=football

it does not matter if they are "PL refs" or not. The main point is that the refs assigned to our games are awful. We are a developmental league for referees. You see that difference when we get the Speciale crew last year for our playoff game and the OVC crew for this year. Different sport but...I have a former student who is a linesman working for the ECHL and a ref working for Atlantic Hockey. He started as a linesman with youth games. After working as a linesman for some D3 hockey, he began getting linesman assignments for AHA. He is working his way up. Another guy who used to work our high school games while he was in college, worked Atlantic Hockey games before ECAC would hire him. Developmental league. Our high school hockey league regularly hires ECAC, AHA, and HE refs for our tournaments and New England tournaments because of the quality vs normal high school officials.

The developmental league concept is what leads to HC being viewed by search firms as an excellent first command for hires such as Nate Pine, Marcus Blossom, Kit Hughes, Brett Nelson, Katie Lachapelle, etc. after they were top assistants at higher levels of D-1. But our two winning teams have head coaches who did not have to learn how to be in charge at HC as they had been in charge before.
