This message below re 90-Wide was recently sent out by ADKH. Some who frequent this site have likely seen it. I applaud Kit for displaying the leadership to embrace the 90-Wide and now rolling it out across ALL our Crusader Athletic programs. I also want to take this opportunity to applaud Coach Chesney and staff for so deeply incorporating the 90-Wide into the HCFB program and culture. CBC and staff clearly understand and appreciate how impactful 90-Wide can be in recruiting future Crusaders to the hill and then helping them grow and develop both prior to and then beyond graduation. I would be remiss not to also applaud our current leader of the 90W for HCFB a true friend and great Crusader Artie Grutt '02.
In addition to Holy Cross Athletics embracing 90-Wide, I am additionally pleased that the new head of the Ciocca Office for Entrepreneurial Studies and Business Ethics headed by Rob Murner is also in the process of incorporating its own 90-Wide Mentoring program into its efforts.
I could write at length on the power and impact of mentoring on our current and future Crusaders but I do not believe that is necessary. I will simply say as I often have that in the midst of mentoring the life you change just might be your own.

Crusader Alumni,
I hope that you are well and that you and your families are enjoying the beginning of a wonderful holiday season. I wanted to follow up with you all on the heels of recent outreach from our head coaches regarding 90-Wide Mentorship and our hope that you will consider becoming involved in this core program. From my understanding, there has been an incredible response from our alumni thus far and many of our student-athletes have already been matched up with a mentor. THANK YOU!
Since my arrival at Holy Cross it has become clear that the alumni network and support for our student-athletes truly is the 'special sauce' for the College and Crusader Athletics. The opportunity to leverage our alumni network to the benefit of our student-athletes is unlike any other institution I have seen, and it is our hope to maximize that strength here on Mount St. James.
To be clear, this is not about job placement. Sure, job placement will be an obvious byproduct of a well-rounded mentorship program, but this is far more than that – this is about creating relationships that have the opportunity to change lives and create unparalleled outcomes. This is about recruiting, retaining, graduating, and preparing our student-athletes to go out and lead a life of impact both personally and professionally. The 90-Wide Mentorship Program can be truly transformational for Holy Cross Athletics!
There are a few additional items that I wanted to follow up on to make sure that we start off on the same page:
1. I want to thank our alumni groups who have worked hard over the years to support their team's student-athletes and graduates. There has been some great work coming from a variety of our varsity programs, and I want to make sure everyone understands the rationale behind uniting under the 90-Wide banner. I believe that by consolidating programs it will assist us in creating consistency of policy and practice with regard to how we approach mentoring within our department. It will allow me to advocate both on and off campus for additional resources and support of the program, and it will help us to educate all alumni of the opportunity to get involved and make a difference - regardless of their sport. Approaching this effort with a unified, team-first mindset will help us create a more sustainable model for the future and is consistent with how we hope to operate as a department. This is about the strength and success that consistency can bring to any program, business, family, individual. As I shared with our coaches, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."
2. While the primary driver of communication for each program's 90-Wide effort will be the head coach, I also want to make sure that you are all aware that Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development, Aaron Dashiell (adashiel@holycross.edu), has also taken on the responsibility of serving as the administration's mentorship liaison. Aaron will share information to supplement your coach's efforts, and is available to help if/when you have questions or concerns. Again, as we work to build consistency within this program it was important to identify someone who could focus on these efforts outside of our coaching staff. I am grateful and excited for Aaron's role in supporting the 90-Wide program.
3. This is not the only opportunity for you to get involved with supporting our programs and student-athletes. Understandably, not everyone is able to commit to a mentorship program, but it is our hope that we are still able to get you involved. Career panels, guest speakers, team Zoom nights, networking dinners, alumni game activities, Crusader Athletics Fund (CAF) alumni leadership, etc., are all ways that alumni can continue to get involved in support of our student-athletes. These are your programs and your involvement is critical to our continued development and sustained success.
I hope that you will consider signing up to be an alumni mentor with your head coach, but either way, I hope that you know how much we appreciate all you continue to do for Crusader Athletics. These are exciting days for Holy Cross, and I cannot wait to see where we are able to take this program together. To that end, I would welcome any feedback you may have related to our mentorship efforts and your desire to get involved. Anyone interested in sharing their thoughts can click here to complete a short alumni survey.
Thank you again for your time and please reach out if there is anything that we can do to help. I hope to see you all back in Worcester here at some point soon.
All the best and Go Cross Go!
Kit
