I wonder if the attendance thing will ever change considering how the northeast raps up baseball just as the weather is getting good. It seems frustrating to me that the new coach is not engaged with the alumni. I still think you need to give him a chance to prove himself with results on the field. Is Matt Perry still involved? The nice weather is reserved for NCAA tournament play leading to the College World Series. But only a small percentage of teams participate. I'd like to see the non-participants, especially in the northern climes, be able to keep playing for another ten games or so on a regional rather than league basis to utilize the facilities that have to be maintained anyways, keep travel local and perhaps have some good fan promotions to let people enjoy baseball in the good weather.

I disagree with you 100 percent. These are events are to just raise money, introduce the players to boosters, etc. Doubling the size of the event by including the softball program isn't going to make a huge difference for each program. You think people are going to bail on the event over listening to the baseball/softball coach talk to 20 minutes about their program? If so, maybe they really don't care about Holy Cross baseball/softball enough. The point people are missing is that under Coach D, baseball had a great alumni presence with the Diamond Club. There was an annual fee to be a part of it that helped fund events. The DC helped run events. There were impromptu events like gatherings in Boston to watch opening weekend. Alumni football tailgates. There was a true connection to the program for many of us alumni. And poof, it is all gone. ADKH has wanted no assistance from alumni and the DC. To those that have said, talk to Kit. I have done so and I know many others have as well regarding the state of the program and lack of communication. It’s sad to see all that D built crumble to the ground. I don't know that much about the DIamond Club. I am familiar with two iterations of the basketball version. The coaches might have been supportive but weren't a driving force. The first iteration fell apart when the leaders lost interest. The second version died when the athletic department took it over some time around 2018. If the Diamond Club is anything like the basketball versions, is it possible that Coach DiCenzo gets too much credit for the creation of the Diamond Club and Coach Kahovec gets too much blame for its folding?

And why the combination w/softball after YEARS of successful baseball leadoff dinners? Why stop the alumni game and the golf outings as well? Zero effort put into maintaining relations w/former players and raising money. Including softball in the same night saves money on rental of the facility. That is a minor thing to be worried about. I'm not "worried about it", I'm confused. Instead of having it at Hogan and not having to pay a facility rental fee, you're paying a fee, and splitting the revenue w/softball. What if baseball is 75% of attendees?

Point of this thread is about the amount of the sponsorships for the lead off dinner. I am noting how the head coach and AD are destroying all that Coach D built. I am not sure citing attendance of a northeastern game has any bearing on the amount of alumni support. Well the alums really came out to support the team in 2019 at Northeastern with such a great turnout. Coach DiCenzo REALLY did a great job that weekend. Wow, alums weren't flocking to an early March game AT NORTHEASTERN in 40 degree weather w/a 20mph wind? Shocking. Utterly shocking.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if baseball boosters outnumbered softball if for no other reason than they tend to have 5 to 10 more players on their roster each year due to the size of the pitching staff alone. Makes for a larger pool of former player alumni. I'm not deep in the details on this, do we know that they split the proceeds 50/50? I would expect some sort of adjustment to reflect relative participation, either set up front or based on actual numbers after the money is counted.

In the past, it was a full sitdown dinner at Hogan with guest speakers, and a silent auction. I'd guess the last leadoff dinner drew 150ish people. Tickets were $150, and this was considered a $100 donation to the program.
Now? No silent auction and tickets are considered a $50 donation to the program. This means less money raised. There's also no guest speaker, and no dinner, thus making it less attractive of an event.

For those who are new to this board, some years ago, very early in the tenure of former athletic director NP, the College entered into a Title IX voluntary agreement with the U.S. Federal Department of Education. This was in response to a Title IX investigation by the Office of Civil Rights in the Department. The investigation was initiated in response to credible claims by students on the softball team of the College's unequal treatment of women's softball compared to baseball. The College acknowledged the unequal treatment and took specific steps to remedy this. See:. www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/docs/investigations/more/01112050-a.pdfSo understandably, there is likely some ongoing sensitivity on the part of the College of possible fresh perceptions that softball might again be receiving second class treatment

While improvements were made to coaching staff budget and Freshman Field, and the new facility that's in the works will help further, the letter mentions "...the College projects that in total it will award the equivalent of seven full scholarships for the softball program." The number I was told fairly recently was 2.2. As to the event not having a sit-down dinner and speaker, I see that as an "event" decision, not a "should we include softball" decision.

It appears to be a six week late Christmas Present to Polar Park. Unless attendees will receive swag or something else of tangible value I don't see where the $100 non-donation is going other than to Polar Park. I wonder if this was all wrapped into the negotiation for the annual Polar Park football game? I can see the attraction for baseball people to enjoy an outing to a new baseball park, perhaps including a tour of the facility. But if it's the major fundraiser of the year for two sports, be careful with donor money, it doesn't grow on trees.

Hopefully they spring for the taquitos and churros at least.

I heard they have one major sponsor so far, but that was before Christmas I suspect you are right. The rule in capital campaigns is you publicly announce the campaign dollar goal when you have already raised about half of that. HC's Office of Advancement would never recommend setting such high $ targets if there was not prior knowledge of potential and expected donors, who very likely are businesses,.

Would Polar Beverages be the logical big sponsor?

Maybe. Although they just ponied up lots of sponsorship dollars for the Worcester Red Sox.
How about Hanover? Their name is on the baseball field. Not sure how that naming rights work since there was a now defunct intermediary when it came into being

I'm guessing that Glazy Susan was not the $25K baseball sponsor nor likely Silver Fox.
Any chance the WooSox were the sponsors?
Edit: The more I think about it, the more I am inclined to assume it's the WooSox because 1. they have the deep pockets, 2. it's their sport, 3. we've got the relationship with the annual EBW game. Also, thinking on it, while I know there would be schedules to work around, wouldn't it make sense to have a Crusader baseball game there in Polar Park? Wouldn't have to touch the field like for football and maybe bring some locals to a game they wouldn't otherwise go to.

Based on social media photos, it doesn’t appear to have been well attended, outside of players and their families.

In a world of vast excess in some pockets of D-1 athletics, I have great admiration for parents of a non-scholarship Holy Cross baseball player who pay $300 for two tickets to the kick-off dinner to support their son.

I have great admiration for the parents paying $75K to play travel baseball, I mean college baseball. 90% of HC Baseball players are paying the full freight. Only reason most of them are Division 1 baseball players is that their parents have the money. Truly dedicated parents.
