Ok, I do apologize for the timing. But I prepared this, so I'm sending it anyway. I tried to my best to make it fit. There is a link to some soothing music at the bottom that may help right now!
Merry Christmas everyone!
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS 2022
Twas the Night Before Christmas and in the bowels of the Luth,
sat a most lonely hoops coach, with a sad face as proof
He had scheduled a practice, not sure of the reason,
would not be well received in this holiday season.
Then soon each player started entering the gym,
and walked with a purpose right up to him.
Gerrale, as a senior was the spokesman this time,
he knew he could speak without seeming out of line.
“Coach we’ll be back for practice, but we have something to do,
just a few quick errands to run, now don’t look so blue.”
And just like that the Silver Fox bus pulled up to the curb
coasting in very quietly so as not to disturb
“As long as they come back” Coach thought with a frown,
“Now what kind of mischief could being going down?”
As the team piled on board they looked in the back,
and there sat the football team, that’s a fact Jack!
Right in front was Peter Oliver, sporting his violin,*
he was ready to play, with it tucked under his chin.
The bus had also been loaded with gifts galore
to whomever and wherever they were destined for
So the bus started speeding right down the Mass Pike,
making great time on this cold winter night.
In about no time flat they reached West Roxbury
In about no time flat they reached West Roxbury
with the bus full of Saders prepared to make merry.
First stop was at Catholic Memorial High,
to honor the most famous Sader father-son duo, of times gone by.
The players left gifts for the Perrys, both father and son.
but this evening’s events had merely just begun.
So in the spirit of things the Fox continued to the Pine Street Inn,
where the boys passed out gifts of food, for all a win-win.
With that part done, they headed south at breakneck speed,
through the Nutmeg state quickly, as speed was the need.
They entered New York, headed straight for the bright lights
found Xavier High, where George Kaftan had played, night after night.
By morning every young kid within a mile from here,
would be the proud owners of Crusader gear.
Next stop was across the bridge to the Garden state,
more places to hit, before it was too late.
It wasn’t too long before they entered Union City
for a tribute to Togo and Tommy, the two legends from the fifties.
At the Boy’s Club the bigs would distribute the gifts,
they used sweeping hook shots to make sure no kid was missed.
A last gesture to the city was made in a most classy manner,
at City Hall they hung the 1954 NIT Champs banner.
With a long way to go the guys continued to ride,
With a long way to go the guys continued to ride,
with the importance of their mission, they took each mile in stride
But just then a sudden bang had made them all shout,
for alas, without warning a rear tire had blown out.
But in a flash the giant O-Line sprang into action,
lifting the bus up in dramatic fashion.
Special teams took over, Haskins had the tire replaced,
jumping back on the bus with a big smile on his face.
Before long the bus crossed the Florida state line,
they would reach the next destination in plenty of time.
Big Brothers Big Sisters headquarters was the place
where they would now see a most famous alum’s face.
Because now they were meeting, yes meeting The Cooz!
and a Christmas Eve rendezvous was front page news!
Cooz thought his favorite charity was the place to give toys.
and now the guys faced all these smiling girls and boys
Dorsey and others started distributing gifts
mimicking the hero’s famous behind the back flips
But soon the boys knew it was time to head back,
should they be late they wouldn’t be cut any slack.
But Jake Dobbs suddenly ran to the front of the bus,
and everyone wondered just what was the fuss.
Like that the bus turned west, destination Frisco,
but Texas, not California… as if you didn’t know.
At Toyota Stadium a purple wreath was left, and the message was clear,
it contained the bold caption “See you next year!”
Then they stopped at the Children's Hospital, where patients smiled with glee
cause Sluka tossed a sack to Coker, who emptied it under their tree.
Now time was tight; they must get home soon
so they left and started home under the light of the moon.
But the Silver Fox just had to make one last stop,
and before long they arrived at the grave of The Shot.
‘A Legend for All-Time’ was left at the headstone,
a fitting tribute for a man with a shooting style all his own.
Once back at the Hart, there was still time to spare,
for the hoopsters to practice before St Nick would be there.
The footballers wished them luck, then they hurried away
they still had midnight lifting, to finish their day.
Gerrale and the rest ran into Blaney Gym, ready to go
with the coaches staring at them, what little did they know.
So the coaches worked them hard, hoping for the best,
that the team would be ready for each remaining test.
The players seemed to feed off the vibes of their trip,
gave it their best efforts, not a drill did they skip.
With each full court sprint they shouted with might
Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Night!
