Here is a new name. Can we forgive him for not forgiving us for firing Sean Kearney ?
•
Seth Davis: When Notre Dame coach Mike Brey announced last month that he was stepping down at the end of the season, a lot of people mistakenly took that as a declaration to retire from coaching. In fact, Brey was careful not to use that word, both in his official statement and remarks at his press conference. Yet, when he repeated his intentions to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman last week, it caused a stir from people who assumed Brey was done. So I called Brey over the weekend and asked him to clarify.
Short answer: He wants to coach again. He doesn’t care when (though he’d prefer next season) or at what level (though he’d prefer high-major Division I). His only condition is that it’s somewhere between the greater Washington D.C. area, where Brey grew up, and Florida, where his son and three grandchildren live. “It doesn’t have to be a Power 5 job,” Brey told me. “You know what’s really intriguing to me? What Jim Calhoun did (in taking at Division III Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, which did not previously have a men’s basketball program). I understand how the business has changed, but I love being around young people and having those interactions. I’m a teacher at heart, and I’d miss that if I wasn’t doing

He's 63-years-old, has never played or coached in a high-academic environment, and I think he's a jerk.
I don't get a vote, obviously - so I vote NO.

Short answer: No Longer answer: always thought he was [Edit: not the best coach] even before Sean (who I actually liked) Even longer answer: He would not want to come to Holy Cross and the feeling is probably mutual Longest answer to WooGray: Notre Dame isn't a high-academic environment? Huh? When did that happen? And, really hoops, you called him?! I hope to goodness you didn't suggest he consider Holy Cross! Next you'll be called Pittino. {Edit: very happy you did not call Brey personally]

Mike Brey is another guy I just can't imagine boarding the Silver Fox for the 5 hour jaunt to Lewisburg.

I would never put Brey in the same ethical category as Pitino

I'm not sure what Dane Fischer's contract at William & Mary looks like, but that could be a landing spot for Brey if he is legitimately interested in coaching next year. A challenge with the Tribe in that they're one of the original teams to never reach the NCAA Tournament.

And, there's a more high profile job in DC that's 99% guaranteed to be open in a couple weeks.

Good call with Georgetown. Really interesting for Brey. Won’t he run into similar headaches at Georgetown, though?
Quite possible both he and ND hit a ceiling when they went to a couple of Elite 8s and the two are now having an amicable parting of ways.

It's not too often when a PL coach gets canned. Not sure if I have this right, but are Milan, Emmitt Davis and G.G. Smith the only ones not to be renewed in the last decade or so?
AU - Jones to ODU (on his own, right?) Army - Spiker left for Drexel BU - Jones has been there as long as they've been in the PL Bucknell - Paulsen left for George Mason Colgate - Emmitt Davis - axed? HC - Carmody retired Lafayette - FOH retired Loyola - G.G. Smith - axed? Lehigh - Billy Taylor left for the MAC (Ball State?) Navy - Billy Lange...not certain about him
Wonder how it compares to other low majors.

Since I've been away for a few hours, I am not sure if it was my poor reading comprehension or that you subsequently edited for clarification because it is sure clear now that you didn't call him. And I apologize if I was just a little denser than usual.
Also, in the spirit of Lent, I will be editing my comments about Brey and, FWIW, I sure didn't mean to imply he and Rick are ethical equivalents, other than he might have sold HC a bill of goods with Sean but that's hardly in the same universe as Rick P. More likely trying to take care of one of his buddies.

Mindful of the fact Lent is two days away, and tomorrow is a day dedicated to stockpiling sins in preparation of lenten repentance, maybe you should not only wait a couple of days before editing, but also pile on more bad stuff about Brey, Pitino, and everyone else

Lange left for St. Joe’s, Philly But had a stop with the 76ers in between. He actually had two spots in between - two years at Villanova followed by six years at Philly. He was definitely fired by Chet Gladchuck at Navy. Was overpaid and underperformed. In seven years at Navy, his teams never won a PL tournament game.

Can we get him to come to Holy Cross? (mea culpa, mea culpa, mes maxima culpa) The closest Lange came to winning a tournament game came in 2008 when, after leading by 17 at one point, they took a two-point lead with three seconds left. At that point, a number of players on both teams had fouled out and Navy had three players who had gone 48+ minutes, as had Griffin for Bucknell. Then this happened:

So painful. If Bucknell remains in the PL cellar will he offer up a L-A-S-T-P-L-A-C-E call to round out the regular season?
