The Bucknell win was a two-man show, GG+Bo. Today was much more balanced.
Defense is much improved. If that sticks, they should be competitive in a lot of games the rest of the way. But the lack of depth really leaves no margin for error.

Gates was the MVP Pomeroy could not have watched. Of course he didn't, it's a programmatic selection.
Differing opinions are allowed, though. Octave was undeniably excellent.

The ball has to be out of the inbounders hands within 5 seconds. and the clock starts when the ball is touched on the court by a player...the clock stops after a made backet in the last 2 minutes of the game The question wasn’t about inbounding the ball, but when the counter begins for the ten seconds to get the ball across half court. And clock only stops in the final minute after a made basket. The backcourt count doesn't start until the ball is in play, when touched by a player on the court.. And SOV was correct, the clock stops in the last minute, and I think in OT after a made basket..

That would seem to mean HC should have gotten the ball when Navy allowed the ball to roll about 2/3rds of the way down the floor before it was touched inbounds.

Terrific win.
One thing of concern caught my attention: even though we are playing with essentially no "bigs", this team really doesn't have any excellent ball handlers. The press that Navy put on in those last few minutes was really a problem for us. Thank God they had to foul to stop the clock because we were getting trapped all over the court.

This team hasn't faced any presses, they will get better at moving to open spaces to receive the ball..And they will get better at dealing with pressure D as they face more of it..Hard to duplicate the pressure in practice...not enough depth..

I have to be fair. I’ve been someone who’s ripped on this team.
It’s only two wins. But two pretty decent wins nonetheless. They certainly haven’t quit
Good for the team and the coach.

These announcers were terrific, knowledgeable and very unbiased. Gave Gerrale and all of HC players appropriate praise. Also noted that because of today’s light schedule, we had two highly rated Big East, etc. refs, Rudecki and Anderson. Agree on the announcers. Was driving and unable to watch game, but listened. Very objective in their analysis, and gave HC guys credit whenever it was due.

Despite a few very ugly losses, the team played ok and was competitive in the other games. They are better than most here gave them credit. Nice to be in first place!

As to the question on the 10 second count.....team has 5 seconds to inbound it (it does not need to be touched but just released in five seconds...) the shot clock/10 second count does not start until there is team control...

Octave seems to me to be more of a scorer than a shooter. He reminds a bit of RJ Evans. Very good at getting to the rim and finishing in traffic. I had thought that myself trimster (the RJ comparison). Very similar style wise I think. To his credit, Joe stayed out on the court by himself before the game (after initial warm ups) to shoot a lot of 3's by himself. It didn't help him on Friday, but it sure did today!

It looks like Kirkwood is earning more trust from the coach, while Wilbar seems to be going in the other direction.
Kirkwood himself did not have any numbers to speak of, but being out there at least helped CBN manage the foul situation.

Nothing fancy but he doesn’t hurt you either. I think as he gets more pt, we will see more from him offensively.

Attendance- 686 Ugh Looking ahead One factor is sustainable, the defense with limited fouling
Unsustainable- 13 threes(highest since ?) by 5 different players in 28 attempts. We may take 28 again, but will rarely make 13. Giving up a combination of 12 more FGA and 8 more FTA Opponent’s 14 offensive rebounds for only 9 points. Teams, such as Colgate, may snag 14, but will score more than 9. HC’s 14-24 (58%) on twos. Unlikely to be done very often. Being outscored by 9 on points off turnovers. Many of our turnovers were of the live ball type, more easily converted.

If no one wants to say it, I will Nelson outcoached the veteran DeChellis Fair enough Coach gets credit for the last two games, just as he would get blamed if the team lost- not sure I would say he out coached anybody, but his team certainly outplayed Navy👏 What I am trying to sort out is how the rubbish we have seen for 3 plus years on both ends of the court, especially on defense, has changed so much over a short week, during Christmas break, and repeated itself in the second conference game. Is it coaching, player pride, or both? Nice win and good start to the conference season

Solid player, and he can shoot it...Right now I think he is just getting his feet wet....

Today we benefitted in how the game was by called by experienced referees-imho PL referees would have had us in deep foul trouble by halftime- again just an opinion Still trying to figure out the improvement during Christmas week, and why it took so bloody long and hope it is something that can remain constant over the season

Kirkwood himself did not have any numbers to speak of, but being out there at least helped CBN manage the foul situation. We talked about it on another thread, but Kirkwood does not shoot -15 minutes today with no attempts for example. As discussed before- is it due to his reluctance to shoot or because coaches have told him not to shoot? 79 minutes of play with 4 field goal attempts is amazing
