As in their other three D1 wins this year, HC held its opponent to under 40% from the field today.

Official attendance 717 One of the refs, Mike Nardone, did my HS games. In spite of today, he is a good ref and nice person

Another solid performance today. The D was good, the pressure on the ball all afternoon was huge, I don't think Loyola got more than a handful of shots without pressure...The bigs jumping the high screens, the guards beating their man over the screens..Dorsey is the leader, Batch and Bo both stepped up there defensive play today...Gates had a very good afternoon, he worked the entire game on both ends of the court, always guarded by a much bigger opponent, and guarding a much bigger payer On offense, the team moved the ball and found the open man often..that stretch that Batch hit 3 3's in row was really nice offence..Octave can get to the hoop, I love the way he slows down and finds rim when he drives. When Bo finds his stride, and I think he will, it will make a huge addition to the offence. Right now he is a little out of rhythm...
In the last few games, HC has spread the court with much better spacing, Gates is not just setting up house in the low post. I think this is what is helping our smaller lineup take advantage of bigger teams.. A nice move by the coaching staff..
This team is transforming in front of our eyes! tipping balls, getting on the floor after loose balls, battling on the boards against a much bigger front line..Playing tough basketball! Playing the way nobody wants to play against them..

Looking just at stats--we've had a (KenPom) defensive efficiency under 100.0 (the lower the better) four games in a row--the first time we've done that since late in the 17-18 season

Any win is a good win but HC didn't exactly slam the door on Loyola in the last 90 seconds. Three for six from the line and a huge mental error by Bo with 50 seconds left. A veteran player can't just stand there holding the ball with a defender on him. Fortunately, I don't think the 5 second call hurt them but that is a huge mental error. Bo really scares me with the ball in his hands. He just has to get stronger with the ball.

I think teams (and players) have to learn how to win a nd finish games..Lots of moving parts to consider and get in line in the last few minutes of the game.. They were better at the end handling the press.Missing the second of 2 free throws is agonizing, it is so easy to take a breath after making the first, and relaxing a bit. The focus has to stay up...Bo holding the ball, I haven't seen that 5 second closely guarded call since the late 1990's..I thought the refs were a bit off today, on one call on Caleb in the 2nd half, the ref said he pushed off with his right hand while blocking a shot. The replay clearly showed his trail arm was straight down..and there were a number of phantom calls..I know they have a tough job, but today I thought they guessed on a lot of calls..

He must be hitting it 80-90% of the time.

It was great to see the team in person. GG didn't dominate but as always he was a force underneath. Batchelder played an excellent game. Impressive for a freshman to step right in as a D 1 point guard. HC plays hard on defense; it was fun to watch. It's amazing that a team so undersized can win. Sometimes an HC player would box out perfectly but a much taller player would go over them for the rebound. I'm wondering which PL team has the best big men. That could be a problem. The refs were not good; they would let mayhem go on one play and make a touch call a minute later. HC is essentially a six man team.

Colgate has the best bigs, and the best guards. We were fortunate that Loyola converted only 9 points from their 14 offensive rebounds. That is not sustainable.

Tough defense allows us to compete with a small lineup -in reality our tallest players might be 6’ 6 “ plus—Dorsey and Kenney Montgomery and Kirkland at 6’5 Gates probably just shy of 6’5 Octave 6’3 Batchelder 6’2 perhaps Tse 5’9 plus
to play with this size going through the league a second time will be more difficult as teams make the necessary adjustments,

See the team photo--Kenney appears to be taller than Gates. I doubt we'd label Dorsey at 6-5 if he was really 6-6...

Most will also not leave Will at the 3 point line.on their rotations.

Thanks Ky, I was making an observation from watching how we look on tv compared to the heights mentioned/listed for our opponents. Naturally I could be wrong, but perhaps we can defer to NAD and those in the gym for input because they see these guys up close on the court. No matter the true heights/length of our players we will be small for the next 15 plus games

I'm enjoying watching HC basketball again. Fun to watch, lately. Could not agree more. Hope more people start going to the games! I counted 132 on the bench side. With that said section I was loud! Go Cross Go! 3-1 When the Crusader legends show up the team wins! The Perry's the Bucknell game and today was Jim Nairus!

Official attendance listed at 717 -- there were half that at Hart today at best. And that's if you count players, officials, employees, media and everyone in the hockey rink for what looked like a women's club game.

It’s pretty sad to admit that low major D1, D2 and D3 all attract the same size crowds - it’s not really a ‘revenue producing’ sport at HC anymore except for the check we collected from Marcus Blossom

I watched the last 8 minutes or so. Don’t think I saw a sub. It was Batch, Bo, Dorsey, Octave and Gates. That is a very small D1 lineup but got it done. Glad to see the guys enjoying some success.

Just checked the play-by-play. Octave subbed in for Kenney with 7:18 left and that was the last sub for HC.
