I think one may view this as HC directing more funds to the combined golf programs - I hope

Napoli's elevation to full-time Director of Golf is the first step in a restructuring of the men's and women's golf programs that will also include the hiring of an assistant coach for each team.

They just hired a women’s coach last September (forget the name but she was an asst at a club in Springfield) - it seems that was a bad fit and she’s out already

Taylor quit right after the BC event. I don't think it was a case of a "bad fit." From a reliable source, it was a case of helicopter parents badgering her and the AD about starts for their daughters. I would think that would be a difficult issue for a brand new and young coach to handle. I think Napoli has the gravitas to deal with such annoying parental behavior. Will be interesting to see who he ends up hiring for the assistant slots.

I have covered a bunch of college golf events in the last 6-7 years and there are a major difference between parents caring and badgering.

Top golf teams have only abt 7 on the roster because they recruit reliable talent (only top 5 play tourneys)- the problem with HC and similar schools is that we recruit 5 or more in each class because we hope to get one or two good ones after a year or two. Therefore the problem with many players sitting out tournaments. Napoli is the right guy to lead these programs

Solution
6 scholarships over each 4 year cycle - men 9 scholarships over each 4 year cycle-women
No need to recruit additional golfers as there will be a few talented golfers walk on.
Schedule additional matches so the reserves can develop
Give the walkons a partial to be a caddy-as a former caddy on the tour from 66-72 it could be part of the development- my claim to fame was not to cost my player any strokes😎
We did have 3 straight top ten finishes with Chi Chi, and at the age of 17 I convinced Ken Venturi to be interviewed and hired by CBS and he started with the CBS Golf Classic- match play during October placed at Firestone in Akron. --- it happened during a practice round in a tournament at Firestone- his son Matt and I talk today about how crazy it was for it all to come together.
It might be a formula for success, or maybe not- but a thought

If this was politics you could say you will fund those additional 12-15 scholarships by "stamping out waste, fraud and abuse" in the budget.
Presuming HC doesn't have that much waste fraud and abuse, what college programs would you cut to be able to swing that money over to new athletic scholarships?

Like all great Americans I would raise the money tomorrow and athletics would be funded for 133 m/w scholarships each
Or reduce some varsity sports

When you realize that Claudio Reyna and his wife, upset about their son’s playing time at the World Cup, told US Soccer about a 30 year old domestic violence incident involving the coach (one of their friends) I guess some annoying pageant mom and dad golf parents calling the AD shouldn’t be a surprise.

And the wives were college teammates at UNC also

Against a very small field of D 2 and 3 schools (we were the only D.1) and our scores were not very good. It’s a large roster that he will have to pair down for the spring events in the northeast
