Given Wilbar’s absence at Lafayette and not being in the gym tonight, can we assume he’s no longer with the team? I heard from a pretty good source that is the case. The revolving door continues. The defining trait of the Nelson era.

Smith is not the RoY tonight.
Colgate, 63-62, under seven.

Can't deal with them inside (64% 2FG, 38-14 points in the paint). They are doing us a favor hoisting up threes (6-20) like this.
Colgate, 68-64, under four.

Two players outright quitting mid-season is embarrassing for the coach.
Started the year with 12 scholarship players.
Subtract two to injury.
Subtract two to quitting.
Eight active scholarship players.
We can barley hold competitive practices now.
Fortunately, the end is near.

Will take some good fortune to get a W here with just 36 seconds left — but great effort and definitely not total domination by Colgate. Look forward to seeing how the season progresses from here.

Nelson stinks, but enough with the quitting.

Nelson stinks, but enough with the quitting. Great effort by a undermanned team. I think our guys played with a lot of heart

Recruiting two kids who apparently can’t play at this level is a bigger problem for the coach.

Gerrale continues to battle, this time against two talented, much taller and heavier opponents each of whom gets half a game rest while GG plays 39 minutes. 15 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 1 turnover, 1 foul. I believe that his 3 missed free throws are a direct result of his tired body.

So how does the program address recruiting for next year if the Wilbar speculation is correct? We will have nine returning scholarship players if everybody stays put We have one commitment and I believe that leaves us with three openings? We also have decisions that need to be made by leadership that remain unknown in terms of action or no action
Thoughts?

We definitely have high school offers out there, but it is late for quality players to commit. Then we are again left with a small pool of transfers who are both talented and academically qualified. We saw how small based on last year. And if we are involved with some worthy players, the opposing schools will definitely use negative recruiting about the question of our coach’s future.

HC hung in there all game long. In the 2nd half, Colgate did a very good job defending the 3 point line.. amid used their size advantage to score around the hoop. If we could have got a call or 2 from the men with the whistles, might have changed the outcome, or at least made the final score a lot closer.. The call on Batch with just under a minute was just plain wrong. After the game I asked the guy running the replay for the refs about it, and he said he felt they had the wrong call. However, they could not overturn the call, not sure why.. The other call I still can’t believe was made, was the block on Keney. He took a hit, fell backward to the floor, then Records stepped on him . Whistle blew, block on Keney! Pretty strange call…
Overall I felt HC played very well. The D was solid, ‘Gatemade some very good passes to score. On Offense, HC attacked the rim, passed it pretty good and hit some 3’s to stay in the game.. Bo had a solid game, shot it today.. Batch had one of his better games.. The team seems to be trending in the right direction. Late in the game, ‘Gate was shooting 50% from the floor, on the season they shoot about 60%.. They create some easy shoots around the hoop, solid offense and size..
We have to get the train back on the winning track….

Nolan Dorsey did not play this past Saturday Word on this board was a shoulder issue He grabbed his shoulder a couple of times during the game Normally one of our better 3 point shooters, Dorsey was 0-4 from 3 tonight
One of the keys to the team's league resurgence, D has been much improved. Including effective doubling down low. Colgate's bigs did a really good job of finding the open man when doubled
Everybody's talking about how great Smith is. I was more impressed with his D than his O. He had a ton of deflections tonight
You can't hit a guys hand with your face. Clowning aside it's a lucky thing Batch had the mask on for that play

That is where we have to search out and sign some impact players. The portal is there and must be utilized. It is the way to build a team quickly…. We may not care for it, but we have to use it!

Announcers speculated that after Nelson complained the refs used the replay to see if there was any flagrant foul. They decided no.

The call against Batchelder was just an incredibly bad call - 2Colgate points there.
I don't know why it wasn't reviewed but i thought the shot clock had run out on the missed shot and put back by Colgate. The player clearly did not get the shot off in time and from what I saw it did not look like the ball hit the rim to reset the shot clock. - 2 Colgate points there.
Gates missed the front end of 2 1 and 1 foul shots - 4 possible HC points there. Those 2 foul shots show me that Gates just had no legs left at the end of the game. I am not criticizing him for the misses because he is giving it everything he has each and every night. The lack of any real big man in the middle is really impacting this team.

I thought there was a clear foul by Batchelder followed by a foul by Smith. I was surprised the ref waited as long as he did to call a foul. It is a foul if the defender "keeps a hand or forearm on an opponent" who has the ball, and it is also a foul if the defender "continually jabs an opponent by extending an arm and placing a hand or forearm on the opponent." Based on that, the ref could certainly justify calling him for a foul. 2. As for the replay, it cannot be used to call a foul or change a call UNLESS they believe there was a clear flagrant foul. The refs apparently decided that the contact by Smith did not rise to the level of a flagrant foul. Thus they had no options, whether or not they thought they should have called a foul on Colgate or on both players.

The rule is what it is, but Batchelder had been putting his hands on Smith and Smith had actually been slapping Batchelder's hand away with no whistle from the ref. The ref only blew the whistle after Smith hit Batchelder in the face. Did not make much sense he would blow the whistle at that moment and call the foul on Batchelder.
