Just trying to do a head count, don't read anything into my inclusion of Butler & Faw.

Not sure if you were there but I'd agree with that assessment. "Rocking" is a relative term but NAD and the usual suspects and the various teams in attendance were doing the "DEE-FENCE," "GO CROSS GO" and just us Crossporters doing our "You, you, . . . . ON YOU!"
This game was a lot closer, a lot longer, than I expected. There really was enthusiasm - perhaps more than the season record would justify. I speak for myself but suspect that others inside the Hart expected the fade at the end due to fatigue. Certainly not for lack of effort. Didn't and won't check the stats for verification but my observation is that Gates is "money" for that mid-range jumper in the first half of any game when he has fresh legs. As the game progresses and he gets tired, he misses those exact same shots. Batch is too streaky. He was mostly on last night. Bo, pretty much the same. And, as we all know, Batch is not a point guard and never will be. Not his fault, just like not Gates' fault for those late misses.
I'll bet the average team height has dropped by conservatively 4" with the loss of Wilbar, Lewis, Louth and Rabs (sitting on the bench doesn't count).

Do you mean that recovering from an injury and surgery means you are no longer "on the team"? Effective height is different from "roster height" to be sure...but they are still there and will play again. BTW, the presence of the lax teams and the women's bb team were shown several times on the video of the game. Some of the women's "non-verbal" communication were interesting and entertaining (OK, maybe not the one clear obscene gesture)

77.9 avg down to 76.1 Darned close you are!
So next year Gates/Nugent will more or less be a tradeoff and Louth/Rabs will make the team taller. But not necessarily better.

Not sure if this is directed to me. From very, very reliable sources, Louth and Rabs' injuries are season ending. While they may still be on the team (officially, they are), effectively their height doesn't count since they cannot and will not be playing until next season. As for the other two, they are no longer on the roster or the team. And, thanks, Tim, for the confirmation of my guess. Pretty good for a history major! The point is the team is considerably shorter than it was in the first game of the season. And in case you never heard this (I'd be shocked if you haven't), "you can't teach height." As I've posted multiple times before, on the day of his press conference, I kidded Brett when I said, "you should know that you are allowed to recruit players that are over 6'5." He was very serious and said "that will be one of my first priorities."

Louth Coulibaly was there again last night...On crutches and a brace on the knee....Kirkwood got his 5 minutes or so in the first half..He did hit the only shot he took, a three from in front of the Colgate bench...

I was surprised Kirkwood played so little. It seemed like he was back on the pine shortly after hitting the 3. It turned out he was on the pine for the rest of the night.

Would they not do that more effectively if not so fatigued that they are unable to go full tilt?

Nelson is fighting for his job He is playing only the players he fully trusts to help him keep the job Or, he's auditioning for his next one. I assume there's a 100% chance he's gone, although I do appreciate that the team continues to play hard every game. It speaks well for the players, and it speaks well of Nelson's ability to motivate them.

And, according to Jacob Vanryn's half time interview, Nelson is "Fired up and locked in."
Now if he could only keep kids in the program and coach a bit.

He did hit a 3 on his only attempt the other night. IMHO, there is only one way he will become a factor offensively and that is buy seeing the ball go through the net in games.

Maybe he was under strict orders not to shoot, and got pulled when he did.
I kid......I think.

The games to play him to gain confidence were in the out of conference games. I realize we had some more depth then, but not enough to keep him buried deeply on the bench. One problem with him being ok as long as he does not turn it over is that Nelson mostly plays him with other limited offensive minded players, such as Tse and Kenney. This happened in the first half vs Lafayette which put us in a hole we did not recover from.

We have 3-5 players who are even average PL offensive players. Of those, Gates and maybe Batchelder are above average. Those guys have to play a lot to stay competitive. That makes it hard to get Tse, Kirkwood, etc on the floor. Ideally, you’d have some offensive stars and then could sprinkle others around them for 15-20 min each. That’s not really what we have.

It's four on five when we're on the offensive end. Even when you count his 3 point basket? 115 minutes played and two 3PT FG goals made. Not one 2PT FG attempted. That is an amazing feat as I would think that merely by being on the court one might score by accident (i.e. offensive rebound and put back, fast break layup, etc.)

Well, I had never taken a single shot and I'm a Crusader. Then again, I never played varsity basketball at Holy Cross. Maybe that's what you meant? But, yes, he needs to take some shots because he can't be worse than some other players on the team. Think he's got a permanent red light by the coaches?
