They had to sign Boeheim or pay him a ton of $ to go away immediately. Everyone recruiting against him would have had an easy time convincing the class entering in 2018 that if they signed with SU, they wouldn't know who they were playing for in a year.

Pretty sure this new contract was decided upon before Hopkins left

Pretty sure this new contract was decided upon before Hopkins left I would agree. A contract doesn't get put together that quickly. My guess is that Boeheim had been in discussions with the school to stay on and the staff was aware. Hopkins saw he was not going to get the SU job soon so he looked at his other options.

Probably the correct order of events...but they weren't going to waste a second getting it out there that he was going to be around a few more years. Says his teenage kids keep him young. My lone one manages to do that but also drive me nuts at the same time.

Tom Crean out at Indiana after nine seasons. Last season COY, to the dance 4 of 9 seasons. AD: Ultimately we need more consistency When you're in a conference that routinely puts half of the teams in, 4 out of 9 doesn't sound so good for a school more known for hoops than football. Factor in a couple of perennial doormats like Rutgers and Northwestern and 4 out of 9 looks well below average

This is a big hire for the Hoosiers. Crean couldn't get enough top, in-state talent to go to Bloomington. I think it will be Alford.

Alford will be to IU hoops as Harbaugh is the UM football; it will get done and he will be VERY well paid.

As the AD said, wins, national championships--quite the challenge. whether Alford leaves may have to do with how far he advances this year. Ball leaves, but Leaf may stay, Welch stays, Anigbogu stays, Holiday stays and Alford has a very good recruiting class.

Kelsey's been mentioned, but passed over, for better jobs than UMass. Guess he figured he better jump at an intermediate step at this point in his career.

Umass hires Winthrop's Pat Kelsey....thoughts ACTP? Solid hire 'thirst. Improved Winthrop year over year. I'm near certain he wasn't the first or possibly even second choice however. Vitally important hire for AD Bamford, as interest & attendance was atrocious this past season.

Kelsey has a chance to take UMass way up the food chain in the state right now with BC in the dumps. Wish UMass would play a game or two in Worcester and Boston like Calipari did back in the day.
