Went to the Sacred Heart hockey game tonight with my two younger sons who are a junior and 8th grader. A group of 8-10 SHU football players was sitting two sections over and started yelling at us, flipping us the bird, saying “Holy Cross sucks” etc. I think they were mostly trying to be funny and definitely influenced by the $8 beers in the arena and whatever pregaming they had done.
Anyway, my boys needed a clever response so they decided to pull up a pic of Coker Mossing two of their players for the winning TD. They turned the phone to them and said “this you?” and started pointing at the pic. It took them a minute to get it but most of them found it funny when they figured out what it was. Only one guy was seriously angry but he was a fourth string TE who didn’t see any action as a junior or senior so maybe he’s made about other things.

Have they ever been to a Yankees game at Fenway? 😁
Those SHU kids should be protesting $8 beers.

When we played SHU in 2009 they were not only terrible but played dirty as well. Last play of the game some loser tried to chop block from behind waaaay too far away from the line of scrimmage.
Sacred Heart sucks.

On the other hand I was at a Red Sox game years ago with my then-young children and there were four young men behind us wearing HC garb. They got drunker and louder as the game wore on and were using every obscenity known to man. I just turned to them and said, if you guys really went to HC you'd be able to hold your beer better. They settled down, a little.

Just my opinion, face the facts, most students at “Catholic” colleges are nominal Catholics if at all. Most are poorly catechized and secular, hence, poor behavior manifested like the general student body. Plaudits to ND’s Coach Freeman for reinstating the Mass requirement for his players. Does HC do anything like this?

Mass was mandatory before 1964, but doubt any coach has made it mandatory since then. Especially for those of different faiths

I suspect if any coach required Mass, recruiting that is difficult enough would be exponentially harder. Even the few Catholics on the teams would balk.

A few well placed team Masses would be far more effective.

Mass was mandatory before 1964, but doubt any coach has made it mandatory since then. Especially for those of different faiths Our Lady of the Lake clearly has a lot more C.S.C. priests in residence than Holy Cross has Jesuits. Notre Dame has daily mass in every residence hall. There are 60 C.S.C. priests at Notre Dame, nearly 6x the number of Jesuits at HC. The C.S.C. order appears to be in decline, though I don't have historical numbers. The head of the order is now a C.s.C. brother, instead of a priest.

How many colleges does the C.S.C. serve. I bet the number is nowhere near those that the Jesuits serve.
