Hey announcer, you don’t have to be that excited when Lehigh scores .

It will be interesting to see if the band plays at women's games. I guess they weren't into the Hawaiian night theme. Have a Beethoven and Bach night to try to coax the band up the hill. Maybe with the Prior Center they are involved with more formal music activities. No band at a home game with school in session. Really?? Doesn’t happen very often.

Jacob's questioning of BN after games "What do you have to do to get over the hump?" is getting repetitive. Brett made a quick getaway and I don't blame him. HC played hard against a talented team, they have to improve everywhere, but congratulations to players and coaches for representing HC well tonight.
Lehigh sent a contingent of fans and HC couldn't even muster a band. Maybe ask the Nativity School band/orchestra to sit in wearing purple attire for future home games.

To win games like tonight we need to make foul shots. I know we play with a short bench and players get tired but we can’t take more foul shots than our opponent and only make 40 + % of the shots and give ourselves a chance to win

Brett Reid about to choke against us again. We just couldn't make foul shots or threes. Gates was off tonight he will bounce back.

The guys hung in there! Not a good first half, on either end of the floor...Lehigh ran some very good offense, and our D didn't adjust.....Second half, our D stepped up, guarded the pick and roll much better, not perfect, but better..HC shot the ball much better, from the floor, Batch is really coming on as a scorer, he is full of confidence! Tonight was one of Caleb's better games, he showed off his athleticism... Obviously the free throw shooting was not good..And the officiating was not up to standard..The senior guy seemed to spend every timeout explaining calls and what was happening to his 2 mates...Quite a few calls seemed very off to me..and to the HC players...After Octaves 4th foul, the senior ref, who has been at HC many times, pointed to the guy who made the call and said "You know that is number 1's 4th?" I thought that said a lot of things..and the foul on Dorsey at the end had no business being called, a huge no call! At the conclusion of the game, Dorsey had a few words aimed at the refs, teammates dragged Dorsey away...And words with exchanged between some of the players on both teams...Not sure who was involved, but I think HC players were not happy with the strutting by the Lehigh guard at the end of the game..Too much showmanship in the face... This group does not give up, and they play hard..They deserve a break here or there....

Really?? Doesn’t happen very often. From reviewing the HC website, the Music Department has a robust calendar of events for the spring semester. www.holycross.edu/academics/programs/music/concerts-and-eventsThere are several band alumni that contribute to Crossports that can provide insight into the current status of the Good Time Marching Band and the Pep Band. From discussions I had with the interim director, who is a staff member for student engagement, (the last full time band director left the college during the COVID hiatus), recruiting band members for the organization has had its challenges, as it is a voluntary organization and club as is The Spire, WCHC, SPUD, etc, that is without academic credit for participation. Bands at a number of schools offer scholarships and academic credit for participants, i.e., UMass, etc. Since this is the first week of the semester, the students who do participate in the band, may have academic fish to fry that supersede devoting the time needed to be in the Hart tonight.

Serious question: If Reed is such a bad coach, as is often mentioned here, how is Lehigh able to have such good sets and open looks in its repertoire? I'm also struck by how even though Lehigh has such good players and none of our guys had close to their best games, we still managed to almost make it close.

I know we play with a short bench and players get tired but we can’t take more foul shots than our opponent and only make 40 + % of the shots and give ourselves a chance to win In a nutshell. And in the case of GG, it doesn't look to me like it is fatigue; just hasn't looked comfortable lately. The announcers went on and on and on about the great dunk by CK, but the 1-4 free throw shooting more than offsets it. I've been loving the effort by this hardy little group, but they can't blame anyone but themselves for this one. Lehigh's got some good perimeter guys for sure, but if they are the second best team in the league, then there are a lot of slots up for grabs.

I think Caleb is 1 for 3 in dunk attempts this season. The one last night was very impressive but I recall two spectacular misses recently. 😩

Agreed It is really nice to see that we have competed very well in our league in almost every game and have won our share so far. Proud of the team and HCBN for making us relevant in our league Team has improved a lot since December ..... A ways to go for sure but let's give the team a pat on the back and hope they can sustain continued improvement into the last part of the schedule and get a couple of wins in the Patriot league tourney

11 is a lot of missed free throws in a game where you have the ball and a chance to tie in the closing minutes. I believe that 2 of those misses were the front end of one and one's in the second half - don't remember the first half. I always feel worse about missing the front end of a one and one than missing other free throws. It's kind of like missing two. Make a reasonable, but not great 67 percent, and things might have been different.
-------------------------------------
Three years ago when we last had kids quit the team mid season, Lowder and Hargis were fairly regular at Hart (especially Lowder). Heck, reasonable to assume your still friends with these guys even if you're no longer a team mate. Students are back and had a decent turnout. I saw neither Lewis or Wilbar in the stands last night. I still assume they're in school this semester, but they were not in the house cheering on their old comrades

I think Caleb is 1 for 3 in dunk attempts this season. The one last night was very impressive but I recall two spectacular misses recently. 😩 This is true, but his effort of late is getting him to the rim. He has developed a strong move across the lane to his left, and the same move from the high post. Plus he is learning to use his leaping ability to block shots. He had a very impressive block at the rim late in the game..

What is going on with Gates' foul shooting?
Here is his year to year numbers at New Orleans and HC:
NO 68% NO 72% HC 74% HC 75%
This year: 58%
Very unusual pattern.
Hope he finds the range again over the remaining games. This team is challenged offensively and we need those points desperately if we are going to finish strong.

LU, excluding one guy, Taylor, was just as inept.

His free throws (actually, all his shots - some of his lay-ups in traffic seem to defy the law of gravity) have a very low trajectory which doesn't give him much margin of error. I'll bet his free throws don't go more than 2 feet higher than the rim. He throws line-drives. But, if it worked in the past, the issue now is what's changed. Doesn't appear to be the trajectory.

John Hightower in the 90s got his ft% up to .688 as a junior after being at .585 as a soph.
He then cratered; senior year he was 23-61 for.377. I guess the "good news" in that scenario was that he had over 100 ftas as a soph and junior.
