What is his degree from Yale Law School and how is that different from a JD? Yale Law School offers a Master of Studies in Law (M.S.L.) degree program for a small number of non-lawyers who seek to obtain a basic familiarity with legal thought and to explore the relation of law to their disciplines. It is a one-year terminal program designed for those who do not desire a professional law degree, but who are interested in a rigorous curriculum and grounding in legal studies.

Holy Cross used to have the "Holy Cross Institute of Industrial Relations" or a very similar name. It was an evening program that taught labor management relations for working people in Unions and management.
My father's buddy was a Federal labor mediator who would negotiate settlements of strikes, and an HC graduate. He taught there. It was active in the 1950s but I'm not sure when it ended. For years you would see an obituary in the Worcester T&G of someone who was a worker at one of Worcester's many Union Shops and it would list his work and labor achievements and a very proud mention that he was a graduate or certificate holder from the Holy Cross Institute of Industrial Relations.
I think most of the former students are gone now. It shows that HC has been serving the community for a long time.

The Institute of Industrial Relations. I am a proud certificate holder. The program was run by Prof Jerome Judge out of the Economics dept. Not sure when it closed but I know it was active through my graduation year, 1980.

Very personable guy but one of my least favorites. Long story, not for here but short version, he tried to talk me into changing to economics major. I declined. And so did my grade. 😂

Maybe. Despite my best efforts to get more American history courses, I only had one, "History of the American South" with newby prof, Brandfon. The rest were boring Russian history and European history classes which made me doubt my major. But economics wasn't ever going to be the alternative. Judge didn't want to give letter grades. Everything was "on the margin,' "above the margin," or "below the margin." So, yeah, I might have been "Putin's Chef" if things hadn't worked out in insurance. Missed my chance to poison the S.O.B. But, as I say, "everything happens for a reason."

I shared that influence. Dr Grattan was an excellent instructor/professor. I enjoyed every course I had with him.

While I’m sure you had a great experience with this professor, I can’t imagine a better history instructor than Fr. Maurice Reidy, SJ. “Mo” taught and referenced things that happened centuries ago as if he’d been there. (He was also an assistant FB Coach!)

Father Reidy was also an official at a home football game once. One of the officials got hurt or sick-forget what it was- and Father Reidy was pressed into service handling the first down chains. I believe he put the zebra shirt on over his cassock and went to work. There must be a picture of it in the archives

Didn’t have a chance to respond earlier but Fr. Reidy was my favorite HC history prof.
