Is it possible that playing an opponent that lives a short drive from Polar will actually allow us to play a real night game with a 7:00 start rather than a late afternoon game where they might have to turn on the lights in the latter stages of the game? Seems like the real night game is a much better atmosphere.

I was just about to ask the same...curious if playing in a league with no night games requires opponent's consent,,,perhaps Lafayette was not on board with a "night" game

The opening of Polar coinciding with this great stretch of HC football can't be bad. I can't remember the last time I heard HC football being discussed on a local radio station like I did Friday. Win win! I meant to say a NEWS talk radio station.

I’m pro Polar Park game. Would be good if they could find a large space nearby for a big tailgating lot. If they did that, it would be really good. Any chance they could add some temporary additional seating capacity for the game on the outfield areas

Not sure they need xtra seats (given numbers last year) but moving the Harvard game to Polar Park leaves a rather uninspiring (and small) bunch of games on the Fitton Field slate:
Merrimack, Colgate, Laffy, and Georgetown.

Geez, if darn BU Terriers kept football, we could have had another football Turnpike Trophy game. That'd pack them into Fitton!

HC should be awarded a point each for BU failing to show up for missing our Football and Baseball games as part of the Turnpike Trophy.🤔😂

One of the first college football games I attended and could at least remotely follow what was going on, I saw BU beat Army at West Point in 1994.

That BU team was 9-3, and Coached by Dan Allen. He was a very good coach when a school provided the tools necessary to win. He repeated the feat of beating Army when coaching HC. He was an even better person as a human being. Never forget the times our paths crossed.
A real shame how he and Coach Carter spent their last days.

I'm generally not a fan of playing 2 FBS games unless it's a great opportunity that arises -- getting our first game at West Point in 21 years, in addition to another game against former arch-rival BC would certainly be considered a great opportunity. As would any 12-game season. I don't see a regular annual game against the Missouri Valley happening so I'd go with this in general for 11-game seasons: 6 PL games Harvard Dartmouth OR Yale FBS Opponent => rotate through our "favorites" BC, UConn, UMass, Syracuse, Army as much as possible Wild Card 1) => Most often a New England-area CAA team or could also be utilized for opportunity to play someone like Villanova, Delaware, Princeton, Furman, SDSU (use imagination) Wild Card 2) => Local opponent that's generally winnable (Merrimack, Bryant, Brown, SHU, CCSU, etc.) You do make an interesting point with the second wild card. Most teams in FBS and FCS schedule one "lighter" opponent as a defacto preseason game in Week 1. If Holy Cross plays 2 FBS, 1 CAA, 1 IVY, and 1 Valley, there's no lighter opponent to sort of segway you into the bulk of the schedule (Basically a NEC team.) How much does Holy Cross value a Week 1 segway vs an overall tougher and more prestigious schedule? On the flip side, you could also argue that playing Stonehill/Merrimack in Week 1 before playing an FBS team in Week 2 would be too steep a turnaround. Imagine playing Merrimack right before playing BC Well, that's what's happening in 2023. The difference in athleticism between the two rosters could be shocking. I'm interested to see how HC handles it. Crossporters are generally schedule hawks, not doves. Hopefully his restructured contract gives Coach Chesney final sign-off on schedules. I think that's the sensible arrangement with perhaps a break glass in case of emergency veto by the AD/President.

Should HC hire one or more of the WooSox blue shuttle busses (vans?) to shuttle fans from Union Station to the Polar game, and to Fitton games or use their own vans to duplicate this WooSox fan amenity next season?
A NYC area Crusader fan could fly to Logan on Saturday morning, take public transportation to Union Station, shuttle back and forth to Fitton and fly back that night, if there are late afternoon trains from Worcester to Boston on Saturdays. Crimson fans could get on the T at Harvard Square to attend the Harvard/HC game.

I didn't realize they had vans. The golf cart thing is a nice touch.

A reasonably healthy person wouldn't be looking for a shuttle from Union Station to Polar. About a 5 minute walk and the garage is considered Polar parking

The Polar Park game has in two years had at least 10,000 locals that have either never been to a Holy Cross football game or has not been to one in years. I’ll take that garbage any day.

The poster says “in TWO YEARS”. Sounds like the poster is suggesting that 10,000 of the 17,000 fans were locals new to HC football. Edit: Looks like long suffering and I were dweeb-countering at the same time

Although 9508 is the listed Polar Park capacity, I attended the Colgate game and there were well over 10,000 in attendance. The place was packed to the rafters.

Football games, be it Yankee Stadium, Fenway or Polar Park, are mostly "garbage" imo....terrible sight-lines, no tailgating for the most part, off-campus etc.....I would much prefer to see HC play an historic rival like Harvard at a wonderful football-viewing venue like Fitton Field on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in September...your mileage may vary.
