Offer #50 Qayvier Johnson Edge DE 6’3 210 New Haven, CT Offers - Ivy, CAA, PL, NEC. Top offers: UCONN, Yale, Princeton Gotta wonder if our staff sees a kid recruited by Princeton and Yale and makes the offer but is sorta looking much more realistically at other recruiting options for the position. We've generally found a successful niche, IMHO, in out-recruiting CAA, NEC, other PL, occasionally MAC and an overlooked gem now and again. Not all the time, of course, but a generally successful strategy that has accumulated a roster as good or better than the best CAA (and NEC and Ivy and other PL) teams. Who would have imagined that five years ago?

Those kids aren't going to Yale and Princeton. Now no disrespect to a kid for choosing an Ivy League school for the academics but those aren't the kids we want. Notice who the recent players are and who's recruiting them. JMU, Delaware, Sam Houston State etc. Bob Chesney and staff are on a mission to win a National Championship for Holy Cross. Coach DiMichaels just spent two weeks running around Texas looking for players. Coach Zars just spent two weeks in Chicago running around to ALL of the major high school football programs looking for players. These coaches know exactly what they want and need. I'm personally excited about the programs direction. The biggest thing is that their actions are fully supported by the schools administration. WOW!!

And no disrespect to you, 44, but while some assume that many Crusader alums have "Ivy envy," we aren't yet in a position to look our noses down on them either in the Classroom or playing fields. Others have posted how many IL alums have made it into the NFL. They have strong teams generally, with a few exceptions. We can NEVER assume a win over Harvard or Yale.
And, yeah, we know what it takes to defeat the SDSUs of the world. IMHO it isn't the players, it's the depth. I'm sorry and don't mean to put this on Jake's shoulders but he and Sluka and our OL and DBs match up well with any FCS team . . . . . if they are playing. Jake didn't play. If he did, we may well have been the team in the FCS finals. Chesney and Company are recruiting just fine and, unlike the SDSUs, we have to recruit academically qualified players, yes, like the IL.
So, again, with respect, some of the IL recruits are the same ones we want (think Peter Oliver).
Oh, one last thought, while many here get all excited about players from TX or FL, I don't care what state they come from. Where we agree completely is that BC and his assistants know the kind of players we need and who can get into HC. Those are co-equal requirements.

I believe that recruiting efforts, especially outside the northeast, are to generate campus visits during the 4 showcase weekends in June & July... administration support includes an adequate if not generous budget for official visits.

I was VERY impressed with that new video but would like to see a similar one focusing a little more on varsity recruits whether football, basketball, hockey, baseball, etc. My impression of that outstanding video was that it was geared a little too generically. I could see that type of video used to "chum the waters" a bit to encourage recruits to make an on-campus visit that they might not otherwise make. Once on campus, I think we've got the people to close the deal.

S1970, I think a different point is being made. If you're goal is to win a national championship then you need to do the things, like recruiting, to achieve the goal. If some of the best players we want are being recruited by ivies, then that's who we compete against in those cases and others elsewhere. Just like business, you can't recruit the best employees unless everyone's considered. In FB you need to be in the states that have the best programs and TX FL, Ga, are loaded so we go there along with other states. There are many kids with the utmost respect for ivies that respectfully feel they can achieve their own personal goals in life and football regardless whether it's Sam Houston State, Grambling, or Yale (or HC).

The foot is on the gas pedal this recruiting cycle. Last year they got high end talent and no let up this year. These first 58 - Wow. Taking this #5 preseason ranking for a test spin. There are less offers this time around which makes sense in some respect as this will be a smaller class.

I repeat myself . . . . I don't put a lot of stock in offers or verbals until the NLIs are signed. That said, I am pretty confident in Chesney & Company's ability to "sell" the Holy Cross package and the quarterfinal challenge to the national champ SDSU is another point of leverage. And I don't think that we're competing for the same kids as the Jackrabbits. Dangling a potential national championship out to a recruit has to be quite an enticement unless they think they are sure-fire FBS players and don't care much about an actual education.

Offers, no verbals, yet, right?
Offer => Verbal => NLI => Team
So far . . . Lots => 0 => 0 => 0
In the future . . . Lots => A lot, LOT fewer => Mostly => Finally
Don't care => Care a bit => Care a LOT => REALLY CARE!
Just me, I know. It's early in the process.
