Massey jumps a 10 point spread to favoring Colgate by 14 (78-64) with an 89% chance for the win. At 11% probability...yes, HC has a chance.

Depending on how each team shoots the three it could be a 5-30 point game.
And of course the way teams pound it inside might make it a long day if we get in early foul trouble

I don’t think he would actually do it, but given Gates’ recent performance erosion and the importance of going 2-1 in the final 3 games, if I were Nelson I would at least consider sitting Gates for this one. Try to get him recharged for the last couple of games and the tourney.

If Nelson thinks his job is on the line, this would be the last thing he would do If somehow Nelson did it, we (possibly) would get a preview of next season’s team without the freshmen and possible transfers.

Given there's the normal rest period between games, I'd start out business as usual.
The only thing I'd do differently is run Kirkwood and the walkons in (and out) early and frequently if the game gets out of hand.
But "out of hand" is a much larger spread than it used to be. High 20s or more these days before you run up the white flag.

If Nelson thinks his job is on the line, this would be the last thing he would do This makes me wonder whether basketball coaches have midyear performance reviews like many other occupations. If so, and if Hughes is honest and forthright, Nelson must have realized that he absolutely had to turn things around in a big way. And would this scenario help explain the team’s seeming improvement in the second half of the season? Unless they’d be major player defections with his dismissal, or maybe even if there were, we need a new coach.

Try to get him recharged for the last couple of games and the tourney. I don't like that idea. If you're not going to really try and/or don't think you can win why even get on the bus. Win or lose Saturday, the plan has to be to head back there in a couple of weeks and win a game. Speaking of saving legs, one of the bad things about that 7-10 games, besides the fact there's a chance of not advancing to the quarterfinals, is the Tuesday to Thursday turnaround. Worse for HC than most teams where multiple guys play 35+ minutes a game. My guess is that 2-1 will get HC out of that opening round, but they'll need help. Kind of looks like we might be scoreboard watching. Saturday American hosts Lehigh and Lafayette travels to Army

For support, GG might want to go out for a pizza or something after the game with Tucker Richardson; he's also been struggling with his shooting.

I think I came up with a scenario where HC and Army tie for 4th with 9-9 records:
HC: at Colgate (L), at Loyola (W), Army (W) Army: Lafayette (L); BU (W), at HC (L) AU: Lehigh (W), Navy (L), at Loyola (L) Lafayette: at Army (W), Colgate (L), at Bucknell (L)
That would make AU and Lafayette 8-10. BU would have to win their last 3 to top HC (Bucknell, at Army, Lehigh)

Try to get him recharged for the last couple of games and the tourney. Maybe, but that would be conceding that there is no path to victory. Even the inscrutable Massey gives HC an 11% chance. Maybe they should play Gates but mix things up, let him play out of the paint, at least defensively and let Kirkwood use up his six fouls underneath.

Newfie74 5 fouls is the limit in college If Kirkwood makes the NBA, he will get 6

I will share the rest of my scenario, and then maybe someone can figure it out for us:
Bucknell: at BU (L), at Lehigh (L), Lafayette (W) Colgate: HC (W); at Lafayette (W), at Navy (W) Lehigh: at AU (L), Bucknell (W), at BU (L) Loyola: at Navy (L), HC (L), AU (W) Navy: Loyola (W), at AU (W), Colgate (L)
If i didn't screw up, the final standings would be:
Colgate 17-1 Navy 9-6 Lehigh 9-6 Army 9-9 HC 9-9 AU: 8-10 Laf: 8-10 BU: 7-11 Loyola: 6-12 Buck 5-13

If Lehigh finishes 2nd, Army would hold the tiebreaker over Navy (I see you have American helping with that one ) As usual a logjam in the middle. HC could finish as Dave describes and finish 4th or 7th

When someone suggests a twenty year old kid needs rest because he’s worn out from playing 2 games a week at 3-5 minute intervals between time outs, I roll my eyeballs.

When someone suggests a twenty year old kid needs rest because he’s worn out from playing 2 games a week at 3-5 minute intervals between time outs, I roll my eyeballs. I remember, painfully, playing 3 games in 3 days of college hockey...NO LEGS THAT THIRD DAY, and the 2nd day wasn't much better. (We did win all 3 games!) I can remember one of officials asking me what was going on with our team, he thought we would easily beat AIC, and it was a tie game in the 3rd period...When I told him of the previous 2 nights, he just said "Ah, that says it all! Just because they are young doesn't mean they don't get tired..

I would love to see the team succeed and go as far as possible in the tournament. I feel somewhat conflicted, however, if that means the result of the success prevents us from making the needed change.
