American and Lafayette cooperated in HC's quest for #6 by losing
Part of the pie in the sky plan for HC to come in #4 involved Navy finishing ahead of Lehigh. Lehigh didn't help that by winning. Still possible, but more improbable than yesterday
If HC loses out and Loyola wins out, Loyola would hold the two way tie breaker so HC can still finish as low as #9

We can only hope as we'd get a better draft pick, right?

Add Arkansas, Drake, Colorado State and VCU to the mix. Sometimes I wonder if he would have gotten the same consideration from Marcus Blossom had he been the 12th player on the those Florida squads.
Maybe the 12th player at a Rice/Vanderbilt/Stanford would have brought more to the table as a candidate.
I wondered and posted the exact same sentiment a while ago. Blossom is about two years older than Nelson. Can’t you just see in that job interview Blossom being infatuated hearing Nelson talk about playing in the Final Four?

From memory, Blossom was a successful walk-on basketball player (might have gotten a scholarship in his last couple of years) and while he might have been in awe of Nelson's playing success, I really can't even imagine how that interview went. Really, I can't. I just can't.
I am of the belief that Blossom having seen the mediocre results under Coach Carmody, he thought going 180 degrees in a different direction was the way to success.
Carmody: very experienced, older coach, small time player
Nelson: no head coach experience, young coach, very successful big-time player
Wonder if Brett gave him the "attack and serve" spiel and if that convinced Marcus?

It is not just Coach Nelson, it is also his staff..They do most o f the legwork, Nelson is the closer..I think in the PL, teams have to bring in players who have a great upside, and if you get a polished player that is special, that is a big plus.. AND in today's environment, have the players stay for 4 years.. Many of the better players from the past have improved greatly from freshman to senior...Floyd, Miller to name 2...The staff has brought in some very good players who have transferred. Perhaps they are not looking at the correct profile for a 4 year player at HC...

From reliable sources, it is my understanding that it was not necessarily HCBN’s playing career that FADMB was most impressed about but rather his integrity. Apparently, FADMB had been at a conference about a year prior to his hiring by HC and, at the conference, someone mentioned that, during HCBN’s time at Florida, some of his teammates had become involved in activities which were not the most savory. As the story was told at the conference, not only was HCBN not involved in those activities but informed the AD/coaches of what was going on. Fast forward to one year later and FADMB gets the HC job and learns about some of the issues with the players in FHCBC’s first two recruiting classes. So he remembers the name that he heard a year prior to his hiring at HC and puts HCBN on the short list of prospective coaching candidates with the thought that he was identifying a candidate with good character and one who would be cognizant of and on top of any non-basketball issues. He was proven correct early in HCBN’s first season when four players (I think each one was a freshman) were suspended for a game (or a portion of a game) for a violation of school and/or team rules.

Integrity in a coach should be a given and minimum standard, IMHO (but I'm old fashioned), at least at our level as I recognize there's a different standard when you move up the food chain (see: Rick Pitino, Calipari, etc.).
I'm sticking with my theory that Marcus was looking for the polar opposite of Carmody.

Oddest thing to me was that they had to have a season high in assists with 21 (to 9 turnovers), and still lost by 23. In the end, didn't change anything in terms of their PL tournament hopes. The next 2 are far more important. Another statistical oddity from Saturday: GG had more assists (7) than field goal attempts (6)

Wonder if that was purposeful? Pass off when the defense collapses on him rather than get caught with multiple defenders on him. His free throw shooting seems to be getting progressively worse.
GG is truly “The Man in the Arena” and wish him well after he graduates from Holy Cross. He’s given it every ounce of his effort.

And this is one thing that confuses me about the CBN recruiting strategy: I can see where he likes/values guys that take it to the basket like Bo/Joe (and even GG as an attacking smaller post), but I really have no idea exactly what he wants/expects out of his biggest guys, based on the players he has brought in to date. To be fair, Brett and his staff do recruit specific bigs. Wilbar, Lewis, and rabs all shoot will. Especially for 7 footers. Gates is a semi-willing 3 point shooter and does it decently. The problem is that none of those people are on the team anymore besides GG. (CK is clearly a combo forward but has to play more of a 4/5. Watch his HS highlights. seriously. they are butchering his usage). You would expect a team constructed like this to run a pick-n-pop kind of offense to clear out the paint and create room for bigs to shoot over the defense. we unfortunately don't really run any kind of offense.
