This is almost beyond belief: (CNN) Shortly after being labeled a "cooperative witness" in a murder case, Alabama freshman forward Brandon Miller scored 41 points, including the game's winner, to lead the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide to a 78-76 overtime victory over unranked South Carolina. A chorus of boos and jeers could be heard at the Colonial Life Arena when Miller had the ball against South Carolina.Miller was playing in the game hours after the school said he would remain an "active member" of the team while law enforcement continues to investigate last month's campus shooting death of Jamea Jonae Harris. A law enforcement officer testified that former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in a shooting that killed Harris last month, had texted Miller to bring Miles' gun to the scene where the shooting happened, according to CNN affiliate WBMA. amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/02/23/sport/brandon-miller-alabama-basketball-spt-intl/index.html(Note: Miles was on the team until he was arrested on capital murder charges…and the coach is now explaining and re-explaining some of his own comments…opposing fans are chanting ‘lock him up’ while Miller is playing.)

I don't think Alabama has AI. If someone, even an upperclassman team mate, texts you and says, "hey can you grab my gun and bring it to me in the quad?" going along with the request doesn't seem like the wisest decision. Scary, scary stuff

Statement from Miller's attorney makes it sound "better" for him (obviously), but still just a horrible look.
College basketball is diseased. I've never felt the level of apathy that I have now heading into March. TPTB have ruined the sport.

Never saw the kid play before, he was quite impressive; especially w/all that was going on peripherally.
Getting back to the main issue, "Brandon has submitted to multiple interviews to assist law enforcement in further understanding the situation, he has volunteered to have his phone contents extracted as well as that of the contents of his automobile," Standridge said. "He will continue to cooperate as any citizen should who has witnessed a serious incident. Brandon does not own a firearm and has never even handled a firearm. Moreover, he had no knowledge of any intent to use any weapon."
Nevertheless, if someone tells you (Miles) to drive over with his (Miles') gun, in the dead of night, you'd have to think Miles didn't want the gun to shoot bottles off a fence.
I'm sure most of you have figured out by now that carrying a weapon in Alabama in and of itself is no crime. Don't think I'll be vacationing on the Gulf Coast any time soon.

At the very least, wouldn't Miller delivering a gun (murder weapon) to a friend be a violation of some kind of team rule? University rule?
Terrible look for the school, the President, the AD, and Nate Oats.

One (now dismissed) player charged with capital murder of a young woman and the star player has got QUITE a cloud over his head. They’re #2 in the country and one can imagine a wide TV audience hearing the loud chants of ‘Lock Him Up” come SEC and NCAA Tournaments.

Terrible look for the school, the President, the AD, and Nate Oats. A story on ESPN says Miller was already on his way to meet Miles with no reference yet to bringing his gun. Miller was almost there when Miles texted him to bring his gun. Supposedly, the gun was under clothing in the back seat of the car Miller was driving. Whatever the circumstances, a tragic situation.

The incident occurred 5 weeks ago - very powerful university kept the story out of the public’s eye until a preliminary hearing was held this week

When you recruit people of low character, you take the chance, however remote, of very bad results. Win at all costs See Pitino, Rick.

You sure you want big time basketball back in Worcester? "Only" two murders this year involving basketball players in some way, shape or form.

I. wrote only about recruiting players of low character. But recruiting players attracted to your school by prostitutes does share a similarity with those who may be comfortable with guns

Sounds like the coach at Alabama is just the kind of guy some would want at HC.

I can tell you law enforcement is not in the practice of neglecting to charge somebody associated with a homicide case if they have even a smidge of evidence against them...the fact that he may be cooperating and helpful now would not preclude a charge, since they have no leverage if he has a change of heart. The fact that this guy hasn't been charged at all lends some strong credibility to his attorney's words...and what is he supposed to do? Someone leaves a legal gun in your car and later asks that it be returned...what do you do? (Granted, there is a whole different conversation we should be having about whether or not it is prudent to be hanging out with a college aged friend who feels it necessary to bring a loaded weapon with him)

I can remember back when that happened to some Providence Friars.
