"endless Chesney 2.0 list"š¤£ good one. The concept of paying close attention to the marriage between Chesney and Holy Cross' latent but too often never realized potential is to try to understand why it works and how to duplicate it - to the extent possible with other hires.
When a career assistant at a higher level comes down to HC's level and turns a Crusader program around that should be studied also. Perhaps Riga will be the one to validate that model.
Trying to think of a career assistant coach who turned around an HC program...Togo and BG moved from assistant in MBB to head coach in WBB and both had torrid success. Duffner was a career assistant who had torrid success as head coach, but all three were already at HC, understood the place and none had to turn around an HC program that was flailing like Chesney did.
Can anyone think of any external career assistants who came to HC and turned a flailing program into a champion?

Very impressive individual. If I'm going to take an Assistant Coach with this type of resume, I'd prefer Luke Murray (UConn) or Christian Webster (Virginia Tech) - giving the edge between these options to Webster based on his Harvard playing and coaching experience.. Murray has a better gig at UConn though...

To all:
If HC approached you to coach, what reasonable demands would you have for HC before accepting?

Bill Herrion not on the list? Local guy who holds the career record for wins in America East.

Over 1/3 of Herrion's wins came at Drexel - during the Clinton administration. He's had five winning seasons in the 21st century. And he's 64 years old. Hard pass.

Matt Langel had six straight losing seasons at Colgate (won 8 games his first season; 10 games in his sixth season) before his first āwinningā season in ā18-ā19. Heās considered a star now.
Dave Paulsen had two losing seasons at Bucknell ( 7 wins in first season) before turning things around.
How much āpatienceā will be given to our next coach?

I had a summer job selling advertising and was told to visit all the businesses with the owner's name in the title first and show them how big we could make their logo in the ad. HC is offering someone their own program, UConn isn't.

Murray has a better gig at UConn though... He makes $310,000. I imagine he would be tempted by a one hundred thousand bump and a chance to be a head coach. I'm on Team "I want a guy who has been a winning head coach before" but if we are going to go the other way, he certainly deserves a look. I found an article which says he tried to land the jobs at Fordham and Charleston in the past. www.wdrb.com/sports/bozich-whatever-happened-to-dino-gaudio-luke-murray/article_f97b46f6-a2e0-11eb-bad6-6720323414ad.htmlEDIT: And maybe Danny Hurley agrees to play us/pay us for an early season game in Hartford.

To all: If HC approached you to coach, what reasonable demands would you have for HC before accepting? Double my current compensation. Free admission for all fans (how much is the school actually "profiting" from ticket sales. Fill the seats FIRST, consistently). Sell booze at all home games. Ticketing, marketing, social media meets with me once per week in my office so I can help shepherd the tone of, and approve all copy for, my basketball program. Men and women play on the same day, with women featuring as the matinee and the men's game closing out the day.
Lower priority: Stop scheduling so many games when students are not on campus. Burn all black/gray jerseys. If the band or cheerleaders or dancers are in attendance at home games, there has to be more than 10, 8, and 8 of them, respectively, in order to be performing/participating.

Sorry, the position has been oversubscribed, so here's our demands: Show us how you have turned around one or more losing programs. If you haven't done that, get back on Rte 290 before rush hour. Your points are all good, however if I am doling out more than a million in guarantees, I am from the "Show me State." Chesney came in with a listening ear not barking demands. The successful HC coach welcomes his new environment, becomes one with it and effects change not by demanding it but by inspiring people to get behind the program. The difficulty in offering free admission is converting back to charging it. Even when Father Brooks wasn't in the entertainment business he charged admission. Far better to offer an improved team than stop selling tickets.

Since all sorts of names being thrown around. How about Sean Doherty. Former HC assistant. Successful head coach at Salem State then spent 10 years as an assistant at Quinnipiac. Currently a prep school coach in CT. Very good coach according to a lot of people in the business. Most likely a long shot. Don't forget about Greg Herenda. Former HC assistant also. He got the FDU program up and going. If you can do it there, you can do it anywhere. Currently an assistant at Elon. Most likely his time has passed too.

I would have thought of Greg a few years back (after they beat HC in Teaneck, NJ). However, as recruiting fell off and the team started losing more than it won it lead to his firing, I am no longer sure about him.

Well they haven't announced a move yet so this could be all moot KH was at a Boston alumni luncheon this afternoon (with Coach Chesney), so I wouldn't be expecting any news today. Unless, of course, the press release goes out after the dinner hour, when we're all glued to the Women's game broadcast.

Many might be attractive hires but who among them would accept a gig at HC? The good old days are just that good, old and gone possibly forever. The college sports scene is littered with the bodies of programs that at one time were great. Try selling a current coach on the '47 NCAA, '54 NIT, Jack the Shot. Even the eras of the great George Blaney & my classmate the great Ralph Willard are too far back in the rearview mirror to be visible today. Tradition belongs in the wonderful play "Fiddler on the Roof " but is of little value to the HC basketball program of today. Certainly, HC's glorified HS gym doesn't help. Maybe catch lightning in a bottle for a brief stay at HC before moving on. See how long FU's Urgo remains. Hiring & keeping the right coach is a competitive, extremely tough business. Not trying to throw a wet blanket but merely adding a dose of reality.

Many might be attractive hires but who among them would accept a gig at HC? . Given that there are only 360 of these jobs and we pay $350K annually, this will be a very attractive job. We wonāt have a shortage of good candidates. Itās on Kit (and Parker?) to make the right choice.

We wonāt have a shortage of good candidates. Itās on Kit (and Parker?) to make the right choice. So we're talking 1.5 mil in guaranteed cash over four years. We deserve a proven winner. Let's get someone with such consistent winning who, if he doesn't develop a winning team in his allotted cycle against HC's schedule, you can pretty much conclude it wasn't because of coaching skill, rather it's something else inherent about Holy Cross athletics. Then that can be addressed.
