Selected members of the men's and women's track teams competed at the IC4A/ECAC championships at BU this weekend.
Highlights included school records in the men's and women's distance medley relay. The men finished 6th in 9:57.54. The splits were very fast.
1200 3:03.35 (Welch) 400 49.61 (Flaherty) 800 1:54.55 (Alfonso) 1600 4:10.04 (VanDermark)
It would appear that those are PRs for all four athletes.
The women's DMR did equally well running 11:48.43
1200 3:37.67 (Lusby) 400 56.50 (Ashley) 800 2:18.35 (Doherty) 1600 4:55.9 (Feuerbach)
Senior Obiamaka Igwenagu broke her own triple jump school record with a jump of 12.587 meters (41'3") to finish second.
Jane Feeney finished fifth in the pentathalon.
Frosh footballer Joe Metzger threw 47' in the shot--not quite as well as some of his earlier meets.

Metzger's record-setting lift has been viewed over 19,000 times on Twitter. HC football on Twitter has a big audience! Love the enthusiasm of his teammates!

Metzger played baseball in high school--guessing he might have been a power hitter....

Still don't love that new spelling of dual.

Still don't love that new spelling of dual. Less people get that right than you'd want. Should of taught them better in school. I guess it wasn't convient. Its frustrating for sure.

Fewer.🤣 Check the whole message--I included 4 such egregious errors intentionally -you caught the first one. We always have fun with our grammar, spelling, syntax, and usage policing on the board.

Since we're down the grammar rabbit hole I have to bring up another pet peeve I've been hearing a lot more frequently lately (though I don't think I've read it here ...
It always bugs me when someone says
Based off of [some information, observation, or other evidence] ...
You don't base things off of something you base them ON something. I don't point it out to others often, but when I do I ask them if they would buy a home that is based off of the foundation?

I'd like to say referring to Metzger as a "Duel Sport Athlete" is a clever way of saying he's on both the fencing and football teams.
