Put it on a shirt.

Does the team take the bus to Buffalo or fly?

Very casual follower of NCAA hockey...can anybody give a good explanation for why our playoffs are best of 3 until the championship, then its winner take all?

I like the best of 3 format. Wish this game was in driving distance. But the Cross seems to be playing great on the road. Nothing from the great photographer and college hockey expert must be busy taking photos.

Inexplicable from a ticket sales perspective as the finals should be the biggest draw of the year. The only thing I can think of is to keep the legs of the league champions fresh for the NCAA tournament.

The only thing I can think of is to keep the legs of the league champions fresh for the NCAA tournament. It really doesn't make sense from a number of perspectives...the only thing I could think of is that it is some sort of NCAA rule...since the tourney is single elimination, the conference championship game must be a game, not a series...but that the conferences were free to do what they wanted leading up to the finals

It's not an NCAA rule.
It is absolutely about trying not to beat up the players any more than they are already at this time of the year. They've played a ton of hockey up until this point.
BTW: the NCAA Tournament is a single-elimination tournament. So the AHA Championship game being that way is not an extreme approach.

The ECAC does two three game series in the first two rounds of their tourney and then the semis/finals are single elimination. Hockey East used to do the same but have switched to single games the last couple of years. The Best of 3 series is done to protect the top seeds from an upset usually.

Protecting the top seeds didn't work in the AHA this year. Go Cross Go!

I recognized the NCAA is single elimination, so the concept of it didn't shock me, just the transition from best of 3 to single elimination in the same tournament...I think I am going to combine your input with Foley's and presume it is a. to keep legs fresh, while b. avoiding chance of upsets. If it was only to keep legs fresh I would think the whole conference tourney would be single elimination, or at least that early rounds would be with final being a series...but, as foley suggests, single elimination can lead to more upsets with funny puck bounces, etc. Thanks

Hockey East now plays single game elimination tourney to decide the league champ. Semi-finals are this Friday, Finals on Saturday, both at TD Garden...They use to play 2 out of 3, but stopped a few years back...
