Don't know why it took so long but it needed to be done.

Thanks Jared for your efforts with this!!! He saw the program going up in flames, hopped into a phone booth and emerged as Super BB Alumnus to save the day.🙂

... i would be delighted with any of the following (in no particular order): sachs, kosmalski, loeffler . . . krikorian.all winners as head coaches. all know what it takes to get the job done in schools with academic requirements. all would be immediate and immense upgrades.
From Kosmalski (Swarthmore) to Krikorian (Newport News), all four above presumably know the DMV pretty thoroughly. We've had some luck recruiting there in the past - and it's loaded.

For the past 20 yrs Bball players have received a free education at HC. They left to join the real world with no debt unlike their classmates.Maybe they could donate just 1 yrs. tuition to the HC Bball program. That's a lot of players & $$$

That's a lot of players & $$$ They drain every penny of scholarship money from these kids, every cent. Without a doubt many of them who have consistently loss are extremely prone to depression, and extreme self doubt. None of you have a clue as to how brutal the job of being a division 1 athlete is. To say they have “no debt” is laughable, and I guarantee you don’t have the balls to say to their face.

Hooray!!! Let make an impact hire!! I’m in the Tom Crean, Kevin Ollie, and yes Ricky P camp Who would have been the equivalent name "impact hire" in football when we reached into anonymous D-2 next door to hire Coach Chesney? The concerns I have about hiring a "name" is the large amount of money and years Holy Cross would have to guarantee that individual. Plus any "name" who is available to come to HC probably is not in the midst of uninterrupted upward success. I think HC can actually get that at an affordable salary and manageable terms from the lower divisions. No guarantees with either approach, but imagine the expense and hassle of having to part ways early with a fallen angel to whom you promised the moon and stars to get them signed.

For many years after graduation people have expenses and aren’t really making that much money. And to expect any recent grads to give a year’s tuition is absurd. Does he have any idea what tuition is recently??? This idea is just absurd.

Cooley makes over $3 million a year at Providence. No one is complaining about it at PC. Look at enrollment numbers and enthusiasm. HC doesn’t need to approach that number at all but lets stretch a little outside comfort zone. The right hire will transform HC. Lets get a proven winner.

ESPN is reporting that St. John's is pursuing him. I very much doubt that HC would want Pitino. Not when a woman is chair of the BoT. KH would be given his walking papers.

With the program probably as low as it has ever been in its history, you need a name to bring back fans, media, recruits. Not a position for a lower level coach, ex Ivy or PL or another assistant at this time IMO. The three mentioned would have to have a quest to build this program back to the top. Bring a top notch assistant in to be an apprentice. So if that coach wants to go back to high level, you are covered.

You can make $3 million work in the Big East. Congrats to Friar Nation for their successful basketball program. In the PL, HC has to be smart and savvy as it can't throw big money at a name to solve the problem. HC can spend good money to keep talent once they have shown they can win at HC where many haven't been able to, because the enthusiasm surrounding winning will generate revenue and other benefits to support the spending.
HC has been relatively frugal in hiring the last four coaches but there's one box they failed to check. None of the last four hires had been consistent winners. MB had the most recent winning and he did the best of the four at HC. All four came from D-1 where we realistically can't compete for current winners.

I don't get the Pitino to St Johns besides location.
St Johns hasn't won a tournament game since 2000. Their nothing special.
Pitino to the Cross I still have hope!

I wish Nelson's family (and maybe BN) the best. My message for him is as follows:
Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.

From the clip With our resources here at the Luth Athletic Complex, the world-class education Holy Cross provides, incredibly supportive fans and alumni, and accelerated growth in the city of Worcester, we must raise our standards and expectations for success throughout our program,” Hughes said. “The time is now.” I’ll take it. I support him and the program for the next hire. I thought it was rather appropriate that the photo on the website above the press release was of an empty Hart Center.

Those familiar with St. John's b-ball know the school will provide whatever RP needs to produce a winner. RP to the Johnnies - almost immediate turnaround. I believe with RP as head coach they will be competing in the Big Dance w/in two years.

Rick Pitino Kevin Willard Mark Daigneault Sickening to think HC had a chance at all three of those guys and instead ended up with Milan, Carmody, and Nelson. Even worse: Two ADs got promotions during that stretch.

We really lost a lot of academic/athletic/national brand identity etc when we didn't join the Big East. The Willard years somewhat rejuvenated our status hoop-wise but I fear we are so buried now in low-major D1, it's near impossible today for any coach at HC to really make an impact at the D1 hoop level as it exists today. Don't get me wrong...Nelson needed to be gone yesterday but I'm really not sure any coach out there is really going to transform HC hoop to any great extent. The ceiling is pretty low with PL basketball in the college basketball world today.
