Big 10 schools 4-0 and out scoring opponents 36-4. One of the nice things about NCAA hockey is that even the little guys used to have a chance, and all the games used to be pretty close. The 2 times HC was in the tournament, we beat Minnesota and we lost by 3 goals to NoDak in 2004 and 2006. Canisius played great last night for more than half the game and lost 9-2. Even Harvard with a ton of NHL draft picks got blown out today. Colgate lost by 10 tonight and they beat Quinnipiac and Harvard to win the ECAC.
And not a single #1 seed in NCAA hoops made it to the Elite 8, just weird.

Any sense whether this year is an anomaly or whether the gap between the haves and the have nots has gotten a lot wider recently?

Probably an anomaly. There's nothing about the Big 10 in hockey that separates it from the other Western teams. Cornell and Quinnipiac knocked off two of them, one of them was the defending champ, Denver.

I think the Big 10 teams have an advantage with NILs as they deal with it in a major way with football and basketball. The transfer portal also helped as they tend to lose kids to the NHL early so they can replace with a seasoned player coming from a another school. The scoring differential is probably an anomaly but I think the Big 10 schools will be the top college hockey league for the next few years until some of the top NCHC and Hockey East schools figure out different ways to compete.

The Big Ten hockey conference has been a disaster since it has started but maybe they have finally turned the corner

Good frozen four:
BU v Minnesota is old school hate ( see the movie Miracle). Can’t wait to see if BU defensive structure can slow the gophers down.
Michigan v Quinnipiac is new school hate. Q is the new eastern power and can shut down highly offensive teams. But Michigan is loaded with talent.
Wish the best for BU and Quinnipiac. I will be rooting for them.

I taught the BU goalie in high school. He has had his moments over the last few years as the defense grew around him, but is playing really well this month. Hope it continues for him. Minnesota is an absolute wagon and BU has been playing good D. Should be fun! Similar scenario with Q and Meechigan. I remember growing up the western powers seemed to have great defense and now the tide has turned (although I suppose nobody would have accused BU and Maine in the 90s of being small!)

I'll be rooting for Michigan and Minnesota to beat two of my least favorite New England programs.
Battle for the Little Brown Jug in the NCAA title game!!!

BU hung in there for a couple of periods. Too many penalties and too much Minnesota talent. 2 EN goals to make it a 6-2 final.
Quinnipiac- Michigan 2-2 going into the 3rd. A great hockey game so far. Quinnipiac is playing great but Michigan is so loaded with talent. While I absolutely loathe both Michigan and Minnesota, it would be an incredible final as there will be at least 12 - 20 guys between both teams playing in the NHL down the road.
But let’s go Bobcats.

I absolutely loathe both Quinnipiac and BU. Glad at least one of them lost. Let's go Golden Gophers! Quinnipiac has 2964 undergraduate men and 3964 undergraduate women and offers seven men's Inter collegiate sports and 14 women's inter collegiate sports, some minor like Tumbling and Rugby. Their graduate schools are more than two to one female to male. With no football, their main scholarship/revenue sports had good seasons, WH 30-10, second round of NCAA, WBB 21-9, MBB 20-12, MH 33-4-3, in the NCAA final. In addition to getting a head coach with local roots, when Coach Riga was hired Holy Cross hopefully brought a little bit of the Q winning culture into the Luth Center. Same thing with DP hopefully.

Hoops and Hockey at Quinnipiac have top notch facilities for their respective conferences.

There's a lot of o-o-old money at ECAC Hockey schools, so that is impressive. The MAAC is a league of non football schools (except Marist which doesn't give FB scholarships) so to have two twenty game BB winners in that league is impressive also. The Q has it going on...for now anyway.

OT for the ‘Ship. Quinnipiac tied it up late. 2 best teams in the country going for it, just great college hockey, this sport should be more popular.
