LSU/VTech at 7 and Iowa/SCarolina at 9. Should be two great games. Hokies and Hawkeyes I hope.

I’ll be rooting for the winner of the first game (preferably Va Tech) over the winner of the second game in the final.

Gotta love Caitlin Clark. Such a pure shooter and all around tenacious and talented player.

Gotta love Caitlin Clark. Such a pure shooter and all around tenacious and talented player. There are many who do not love Caitlyn Clark. She does a lot of complaining and showboating out there which isn’t as widely accepted as it is in the men’s game but obviously a tremendous player. Seems like someone you love if she’s on your team but maybe not when she’s on the other team. She does hang around after every game and sign for the kids which I like. Expect a lot of physicality on her from the SoCar defense tonight. Lots of grabbing and bumping as she tries to get free.

SC by 25-30. Far too athletic for Iowa. Hope I'm wrong.

South Carolina is favored by 11.5. I don’t gamble but would take South Carolina and give the points if I did. Like smally, hope to be wrong.

I hope the refs don’t reward to excessive physicality that So Car plays with - it takes away from the beauty of the game imo - if they continue to swallow their whistles I agree Iowa will have a tough time keeping it close - you’ll see Clark on the floor a lot

No idea how the rest of the game will play out but kudos to Iowa for the first quarter. SC has all the athleticism and size but seems clueless.

Not sure how good they can feel being up 1 at halftime when Aailiyah Boston barely played with foul trouble and didn’t score. Clark has been great but I worry she’s going to get worn down late in the game. They’re playing her tough full court with a lot of different defenders. Gets tough over the course of a game. Others are going to need to step up for Iowa to keep this close and have a chance to win late.

So far Clark has the stamina. 31 and 7 assists. Some amazing shots. Quite a game. Iowa up 3, just under 6 minutes

Anyone who didn’t think Clark deserved NPOY found out tonight. Wow. Great game by Iowa and really good game plan by their coaches.

Quite obvious that I know nothing. Couldn’t imagine Iowa, even with Clark, staying close to SC. I’m amazed. Guess that’s why I don’t bet. Iowa seemed very well prepared and deserved the win.

Anyone who didn’t think Clark deserved NPOY found out tonight. Wow. Great game by Iowa and really good game plan by their coaches. Only thing that went wrong was giving (by design) #25 four wide, wide, wide open shots in Q4. She was a 21% 3 point shooter, but in this game, made 3 of them. I thing SC got 25 second shots and Iowa got 3. The third came w/15 seconds left and helped clinch the ballgame.

Clark seemed to be the fastest player out there (along with being the best scorer and by far the best passer) and at 6-foot she is a matchup nightmare in the women’s game. South Carolina’s coach seemed stunned by the loss (judging by some of her post game comments).

They said the same things about Taurasi. it was a great game and Clark is exciting. Sherry Levin protégée Aliyah Boston had a tough night.

1- With her wide array of shots and passes Clark played a Curry like game. 2- Dawn Staley has won many games, but she was thoroughly outcoached. How can a coach allow one player to be responsible for 75% of her team’s points and 100% of its 4rh quarter points without ever trying to double team her to force her to give up the ball ? Unconscionable. And though Carolina’s Johnson hit those open threes in the 4th, the Iowa strategy to have Clark play a one woman zone in the paint helped prevent even more dominance by the Carolina bigs. As well, the Iowa offensive sets consistently allowed Clark to get open lanes to drive all the way or to run effective high ball screens when she found her rolling bigs for layups.

SC could not solve the riddle of doubling Clark AND stopping Clark’s long and strong passes to the open teammate. Don’t see those sort of passes whipped to cutting/stationary teammates too often in the college women’s game. And SC’s attempts to prevent the speedy Clark from getting the ball in the first place were easily countered by Clark’s teammates. And it was impossible for SC to push around Clark because they never really caught up to her.
I was most impressed by her court vision, foot speed, and passing.

How many unchallenged layups did Clark get ? Totally agree that Staley was thoroughly outcoached and did not make necessary adjustments - Clark is better than advertised and Sunday’s game will be very interesting - Mulkey will have a better plan to stop Clark but I’m rooting hard for Iowa

I hope Iowa has something left in the tank after last night. LSU is also very good inside, the transfer from Maryland most notably (how good would MD have been with her?). I expect #55 to try and knock Clark around if she can keep up with her.
ESPN made a point of noting all 3 officials were women and there's supposed to be 3 women officials for the finals. Hopefully, the one w/the mask isn't working the final, wasn't impressed with her after the no call where Cardoso managed to foul TWO Hawkeyes on the same play.
Can Mulkey top the outfit she wore last night? Geez.

I was surprised about how SC tried to defend Clark. The two best pure shooters in women's BB are Clark and Maddie Siegrist. UConn beat them four times this year. They held them to under 35% from the field and under 20% from three. If you can make a scorer take 30 shots and hold them to the low to mid 20s you're going to win most of the time. SC tried to put a guard or small forward on Clark. That's no contest. UConn defended both of them with Edwards. She's taller, stronger, and about as quick. She denied them the ball and pushed them out farther than they wanted to be. The other thing UConn did was make them play defense and wear them down. Shooters would rather not play defense.

Definitely not Staley’s finest coaching moment.

The biggest problem I saw from SC against Clark on Friday was Clark was getting the ball far too easy and there wasn't enough denying her the ball.
