This appears to be closed to all except players and former players and their families. I requested membership and they accepted me. As Groucho said, you should never join a club that would accept you.

If I were at the game tomorrow I would be watching: RB - we know what we have in Fuller and Purdy. Rivers and Slade likely LOTS of reps. For Fuller’s reps, does he look like he’s getting from the mesh point to the hole faster (first 3-5 yard burst) That was his biggest area of needed improvement IMO. DL - How much 4 man vs 3 man front do we play? Have BV and Springer taken another step forward ? (likely 2 leaders of the DL next year) No reps for Ross tomorrow. not cleared for full contact. How do the younger guys look? Boobie at NG, Dyer at DT. Reynolds, Townsend and Owens at DE. All should get a ton of reps. DB - Haskins and Spence obvious 1’s at CB. Probably limited reps. 3 new starters at Safety (Ruane at SS, Harris-Lopez at WS, Jarmo at FS) How do they look together? Communication pre snap, etc. Who’s the nickel? JP Reiger and John Wood likely rotating with the 1s and 2s. Or do they roll Haskins or Spence to Nickel and bring on another CB like Scott? My guess is the former. Edit* - a note on nickel safety and what to watch for…When opposing offenses either bring in a more spread formation or face a longer down and distance, the D will likely rotate out a more run oriented / base DB for a nickel safety. This is likely Ruane in favor of a more pass defensive DB. Additionally, we will also add a 6th DB and run a 3-2 front while rotating out a DL or LB. I expect Reiger and Wood to be in that role tomorrow if both are playing. At least with the 1s and 2s. My 1st Post but I have been reading the board since 2018. I can tell you the analysis everyone reads from Midwest05 is outstanding and accurate. I have had the pleasure to meet this proud HC alum and his family in the Spring 2020 at Lehigh and he bleeds Purple. Additionally, I have a unique perspective as I have a son on the team. I was at the Spring game and can add my observations: QB - Sluka - Glad he is on our team. What a great kid and great talent. Great competition for the 2nd and 3rd spots with both Pesansky and Forcucci making nice throws RB - No Purdy or Forrest as they are both out with injuries. Fuller looks good. I think he will be a 10-15 carry back and will have a really good year. Slade looked quick to the edge. Rivers is a true downhill power back who could be very valuable in short yardage situations. Hard to get a true gage on potential impact given the lack of true tackling but with our outstanding OL i think our run game will be strong! OL - Big, strong, powerful and deep. Will look forward to Pat M returning as the starting unit may be top 5 in the country! WR - What a deep group. I think the combo of Coker, Shorter and Shipman could be our best trio yet! Mosey looks quick and very similar to Spence Gilliam and Quinton Gregory will add valuable depth. Really wish Dom Thomas was healthy as he really began to emerge last year! TE/H-Back - What a deep group this could be come fall. No Morris or Petersen due to injuries but Phoenix Dickson continues to impress me. Made a couple nice catches in the game. Big, strong and good hands. Hunter Lane continues to develop and with healthy Morris and Petersen this is another deep and talented group! DL - Key to our ceiling of success on D in my opinion. I thought they did a very nice job. No Ross as he is recovering from his injury but I believe he can be an outstanding player in the Fall. It is my opinion that due to the emergence of some guys we will be in more 4 man. I really liked what I saw from Brian Vaganek(Limited reps), Jared Dyer and especially Collin Reynolds. Additionally, Damon Donalds and Daniel Santiago took steps forward from last year and will provide big bodies inside. LB - Can't wait to see #27 back in the middle. I'm a little biased on this one!!! Along with the emergence of the DL especially in the middle this will be huge in our run D. We struggled in several games last year (Fordham, Lafayette, SDSU) to stop the run and no Dobbs was a big reason. Monte and Bolden both got valuable reps in his absence last year and that will pay dividends this fall. DB's - Does any other FCS team have the length at corner HC does?? Devin Haskins, Terrence Spence and my pick for the guy who took the biggest step forward Malik Scott is an impressive group. Length, competitiveness and talent in bunches. Kam Molton will provide valuable experienced depth when he returns from his injury. Yes I am super excited for this group. Safety looks to be our thinnest group but certainly liked what I saw from Jarmo and especially Curtis Harris-Lopez. Ruane will also play a big role and the sleeper to impact might be Hugh Kelly. He plays with an infectious spirit and is an aggressive tackler. I am beyond excited for the season. What an impressive group of young men led by an outstanding staff. Hopefully the incoming Freshmen take the challenge of being in the best physical and mental condition to compete and provide the cherry on top of what is going to be an outstanding team! GoCrossGo!!!

First, welcome to Crossports. Please continue to post, since your first one was outstanding and sets a high bar for others I hope will follow. Will all of the injured players be ready by the start of the season or might some only join the team at a later date?

Given this being our last season I plan to be active on the board as often as possible. Out of respect for the privacy of each player and the medical staff I don't think it is appropriate for me to comment on injury recovery timing. Hopefully you understand my perspective on this. Next 4 1/2 months will go by quickly and here's to an incredibly safe, healthy and successful season!

Most certainly. Thanks again for posting. The seriousness of the injury and long recovery for Dobbs last season were a surprise. The first reports were that he was "week to week." As a former sports reporter (starting with the Crusader back in the late 60s) I understand all you said. (As the husband of a nurse and former coach myself, I also understand the rules and regulations of HIPPA and would not intentionally ask someone to violate them.) I tend to bleed Purple and I guess my question was over that line. Sorry. Be well.

Thanks DLS! We completely agree on discussing an individual players' prognosis and recovery time frame. In very general terms, the good news is of the roughly dozen players that did not play last Saturday, it is my understanding that a majority will be cleared by summer workouts starting June 4th. A couple not till mid-August and might be questionable for the first couple games. Only one injury this spring resulted in a longer recovery well into the season. While that player is not a starter, they are a key reserve and starter on multiple special teams. As they say "next man up."

Injuries are a gut punch and as fans not knowing the status makes it even tougher. As I mentioned in my post, I have a "dog in the fight" and I'm sure you guys will figure out which one if haven't already. We've enjoyed an incredible 4 years and year 5 with the challenging schedule, talent, coaching and tremendous institutional support has the chance to be special once again. The Army trip is the one I'm super excited about. To start this journey at Navy in 2019 and be blessed with a trip to West Point in 2023 on Veterans Day is truly amazing.

Thanks everyone for the insights on the Spring Game. Had been to everyone since 2018.
My observation is that in 2018, a lot of Freshman got playing time - same in 2019 and 2020 (spring 2021). Every year we had a core group of players that played the previous year. With the improvement of our program, it makes it harder for underclassmen to get playing time. That's the mark of a strong program. I'm excited to see the underclassman step up, especially on the DL.
One position I have not seen anything on, is place kicker. We had Derek for the last 5 season. The roster shows 3 place kickers. Any insight to who is on track to take that role?

Pat Haughney is back as the punter and holder so that is a position of strength.

Some posters are pretty tuned into the program, but many like me follow from a distance but enjoy reading anything we can. It will indeed be a treat to see #27 back on the field in the fall. He is a combination of talent, character, and effort that one rarely sees. Your point about injuries is well taken, and I think most on Crossports have shown restraint. I have no access to any injury info ever, but I do know one of the orthopedic surgeons who takes care of HC athletes and he is top shelf (and though not an HC graduate bleeds purple).

Luis Palenzuela hit a deep FG. They also have a Frosh coming in from FL - Porto who is a bigger kid and will compete.
After seeing 19 of the Frosh this weekend many of them need a year in the weight room.
Strictly from an eyeball test - which means very little - there were a few who stood out. Stu Smith, Will Janis, Robinson stood out to me physically right now. There were still another 13 Frosh not there who I expect to be in the mix based on necessity on D. Comestro, Spinogatti come to mind among others.
I don’t think you’ll have too many that get a ton of minutes but I do expect 3-4 Frosh contributors (however you want to define that) during this year.

I'd add RB "JC" as passing the "look test" per multiple primary sources although he wasn't there Saturday. I believe WR Max Warren was in attendance and is also in this category. Of note, both are PGs and a full year older than most HS Seniors. WR is a position where frosh have a better chance to play early (Shorter most recently), but with the development of Q Gregs and Max Mosey, it might be a longer shot this year despite the fact that all 3 incoming receivers could be capable on a lesser FCS team.
