Well, no surprise, this list is pretty subjective. I'm glad Worcester is on the list. Framingham and Quincy, I don't think so. I currently live in West Hartford and agree wholeheartedly.

Agreed, entirely subjective, although I'm sure these are fine places on this list. Happy for Worcesterites to get more bragging rights. TBT it was a big adjustment for me to go from Westchester/NYC to Woo in the '60's. Central Mass is beautiful. And Vermont? No doubt there are many more beautiful places in Mass./NE & the entire NE. I'm sure many have come across other idyllic places in their travels in the NE. Bedford & Bedford Village, Pound Ridge, Ridgefield to add a few.

The intro refers to 25 “cities” so that may explain why certain places are excluded. I don’t really think of a West Hartford as a city but it does have a population of 64,000 people.

Believe my friend Crucis, posted this thread in order for Crossporters to "cleanse the palate."

My home town of Portland, Maine makes the list-a great place- but the photo is from Cape Elizabeth, a suburb.......

Bergenfield and Englewood...really?! No one is beatng a path to either town (and I have done many parades and other functions in esch of these small towns). If they are really on thea list of the top 25 towns, the northeast is in trouble.

Any list like this that includes Worcester and excludes Boston (in regards to best places to live in the northeast) is certainly notable.
Belated recognition that Worcester is, after all, America’s Paris.

Rhinebeck, Duchess County, NY Assume you've been to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. Is it still there? Fascinating what early aviators flew.

It was a "must see" for Cub Scout Packs/Dens back in the day. I never cease to be impressed by how many of those early aircraft are still flying.

I'm still trying to advance from Webelos. Actually, I was a Boy Scout for a while. Do we have any Eagle Scouts?

Many of my cross country runners became Eagle Scouts as did some of the Cubs with whom I was "in uniform." I never advanced to boy scouts because of conflicts with school and sports (travel was the issue since Bergen Catholic High School was several miles away in another town). I did make WEBLOS, however.

I thought it was strange that the part of Framingham they mentioned specifically, Downtown, is the part that's got the most problems. They put up/are putting up, several apartment complexes in that area; I think they'll either boost its profile considerably or, if they don't rent; bring it down even more. In that neck of the woods, I'd choose Needham, Wellesley and Natick anyway.

Stayed there many times. Very convenient but hardly luxurious.

Agreed...but also VERY convenient to HC sporting events. Last time I was there was for a BC football game at Fitton. That shows how long it has been for me.

I vaguely recall when they built it, it looked like they were building the proverbial “house of cards,” with pre-fab sections. Really built on the cheap. That said, I believe there is still. HoJo motel off I-95 in CT just north of New Haven. With all the HC events almost ensuring SRO occupancy, how did they go out of business? Perhaps because it got so run down they would have had to raze it and rebuild from scratch.
Or, Holy Cross made them an offer they couldn’t refuse?😉

Went there for very late night breakfasts on more than one occasion while a student. HC rented one floor of it for a dorm during that time as well.

Fond memories: we used to sneak into the hotel to get ice to cool down our beer cans before baseball games across the street.

Met and chatted with the late, great Mark "The Bird" Fidrych one memorable (sort of fuzzy) night at the Rum Keg Pub at HoJo's in the mid-80s.

That rings a bell but would think razing and rebuilding would solve a mold problem. I guess HoJo's ran into issues with meatless Friday's fried clams no longer in demand and financial difficulties but how does the New Haven HoJo still exist? (I never got off 95 to see if it is still; a viable operation. Maybe it too is closed and they just never knocked it down?). Or maybe all those Crossporters stealing ice put them out of business?

Keeping 28 flavors of ice cream cold was expensive.
