This HoJos was built two years after I graduated. Now I really feel old.

Know-it-all younger folks like to trumpet that old age is a state of mind. My body begs to differ. The body was not meant to last forever. Expect some day science will find a way to preclude DNA breakdown. Imagine an older age free from hip replacement, various cancers, ARMD, senior moments & other medical breakdowns of old age.

HoJo's was being used as dorm while I was at HC
At that time, the HoJo's brand was dying. Central MA locations were mostly converted to Ground Round at that point. Same parent company. Not a good sign for the business when you need to re-brand your flagship brand

Anyone remember the "Johnson Howard" waitress spoof by Mad Magazine? When it got busy the waitress went to the bathroom for half an hour.😅

I vaguely recall when they built it, it looked like they were building the proverbial “house of cards,” with pre-fab sections. Really built on the cheap. That said, I believe there is still. HoJo motel off I-95 in CT just north of New Haven. With all the HC events almost ensuring SRO occupancy, how did they go out of business? Perhaps because it got so run down they would have had to raze it and rebuild from scratch. Or, Holy Cross made them an offer they couldn’t refuse?😉 Something about mold was cited as the reason for razing. Flood plain.

Was at an HC club soccer game last weekend. Met parents of one of the HC players who now live in Katonah but one or both of them was from Yonkers.

It's kind of like Brooklyn-- no matter how long you live in another place, you're always "from" there. Yonkers is that spot. I went to HS with a buddy who lived in Katonah, the big red barn on the bend-- you know if you've driven by it going north from Millwood.

Had Classmates/friends from Mt. Kisco and Ossining (think Sing Sing prison) and going from one buddy's house to the other, always went through Millwood. I remember thinking, "is this really a place?"
As for Ossining, my buddy claimed whenever there was an execution, the lights in his house dimmed.
So, anybody live near New Haven to confirm or deny that HoJo is still in business?

I'm sure Yonkers is a fine place, but whenever I hear the name I think only of Yonkers Raceway.

Yonkers? Sid Caesar, Ella Fitzgerald &?. And, honored place of my wonderful birth 77+ years ago. I remember that day as though it was yesterday. Moved out from Seminary Avenue(St. John's Church) in my infancy at age 1+. Then, after 17 years in Westchester onward & upward to Worcester,

Yonkers was also home to the least successful professional baseball team in history.
The 1995 Yonkers Hoot Owls. Yes, I went to at least 1 game.
