You ought to go to some home PL games this season -- the team is greatly improved over last season in my opinion

marginal improvement idea, but bring back women's and men's dh's. i always heard that the limited locker room space made this difficult but the new hart must have enhanced accommodations. suppose i have to add that the women's team would have to improve - a lot !

It was an eye catcher when I read the headline, "Increasing Hart Attendance Ideas?" I have been a season ticket holder for both basketball and football for a good 40 years. I continue to buy the tickets, but I have not attended one basketball game the past 2 years. Why? I do not have the enthusiasm anymore to drive 70 miles one way to watch a losing program. Some people will call me a fair weather fan, but, let's face it, most sports fans are fair weather fans anyway. It's all about winning. I will continue to buy season tickets, hoping that someday the basketball program will be a winner. However, until this day comes, my season tickets will just be a donation. How about letting the school know. Perhaps they could find a local fan who might like them.

Give somebody the job of increasing student and other fan attendance. Set goals. Reward accomplishment. Hold the person accountable.
Perhaps find some motivated, younger students and give them a marketing project to take place over the course of two or more seasons.
Include actual tickets to the games in the welcome packages for each freshman student- some might actually get the impression that going to hoop games is "a thing" at HC. Or at least send the hoop schedule electronically to the incoming freshman so they have it ahead of time.
There is no doubt in my mind that attending these games is a vastly more enjoyable experience when there are involved students in attendance. It doesn't take many bodies in such a small arena to make an impact. The band, cheerleaders and dance team do a great job creating excitement and "making noise". A rowdy student section only adds to the experience. We have a current enrollment of about 2900 students. Your really only need about 200 to 250 students in the "student section" underneath the opposite basket to make an impact (maybe not even that many). That's approximately 7 to 8% of the entire student body. Is that really too much to ask for? Of course, when the students do attend, it would be nice if we could get them to stand and cheer when HC makes a big play, etc.,- not what I have seen lately.
And WIN too...

Leave the PL and join a better league like the A10.

I keep saying there are a lot of people(former season ticket holders and die hards) that would love return to the Hart. Those of us who filled the place in the late 70's and early 80's are not dead. The product, for example, the league, home schedule and talent level, have to improve. Gimmicks are not going to have much effect.

I work for one of HC athletics biggest sponsors. Believe me, it's hard to even give free tickets away.

1) Win 2) Knock off a "name" school 3) Be good enough to get PL title game at home 4) Be a regular in the NCAA tourney 5) Recruit an electrifying above-the-rim Feaster-type player As to video boards- they are coming in 2018 at both ends. #2 is so huge imho. So close so many times. By the way, Monmouth beat 7-3 Memphis on the road the other night. #3 has not happened in such a long time. Those games are always good takes, no matter what names are on the jerseys. Add TV, video boards and some students - makes for a fun time, at least for me. #5- too bad JF doesn't have better ball skills; he certainly fills the electricity requirement.

I understand most people like "brand names", but if you could get the atmosphere of some of the classic Bucknell or American games from the prior decade every night, you'd have something. Chu Chu can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Gonzaga has trouble filling their joint for the Portland or San Diego games.

How big were the crowds in the old Worc Aud?
If I remember correctly, with the "little theatre" open it only seated about 3,500.
My bet is that the archives would show that even when HC was playing much more of a "big time" schedule in the 60's that they didn't average many more that 2,000-2500 per game.
Am I wrong?
The FB crowds were much better in those days....but not basketball I don't think.

Here's a hypothetical: let's say we pulled a Monmouth and knocked off Syracuse and South Carolina. Think there would have been more buns in the seats than the 3,591 for the UMass game?

My first season as a season tix holder, 74-75, opening night in the Aud about 300 people..By the end of the season, in which HC turned the program around, it was SRO every night..and that carried over to the new Hart. The Telegram carried a story about every game the day of the game, usually above the fold in the sport section. IMHO, that pub was a huge factor in getting Worcester's population to games. I asked of the Telegram a few years ago why there was no day of game story any more, and they responded that the game was listed in the "Games Today" section.. As I travel around Worcester now, I am seeing bill boards for the men's team. There are adds in the Telegram now, and I hear adds on the radio... Now, all we need to see is our Saders start winning regularly and I believe they will come..

Especially over winter break, I'd love to see us get some local elementary schools and youth leagues in there.
Knowing nothing of the cost or liability issues, I think it would be great to bus a group of students and a chaperone from schools in shrewsbury, Holden, Worcester, Auburn etc to the Hart. Have their own section at the game. Provide pizza. (Hockey does this already).
What parent wouldn't pay $10 for their child to take a bus with their teacher from their school to HC on a Saturday afternoon? (If just for a break? 😃)

I think the mid winter games will be well attended if the team starts out well in the PL.

Because of NFL, NBA, MLB productions, fans EXPECT to have video boards/jumbotrons. Watch how Navy utilizes their jumbotron. They're not just for replays. They can zoom in on fans/kids during timeouts, halftimes, etc. Watch the kids at Navy go crazy when they're on screen. It makes for a fun family experience. Watch how many families you see at Navy. C'mon. Use some imagination. Wake up there up on the hill. If you don't think it's Entertainment, what the hell do you think it is!

Tickets are given to local schools and youth leagues. Mostly during semester break. Actually, I think hockey is following the model that hoops has been using for years. In addition, the youth leagues frequently have a mini game at half time to make sure the kids actually use their tickets

...As to video boards- they are coming in 2018 at both ends. Is that for certain, CTP? If it is, can a Jumbotron for Fitton be next? I heard at one end, the complication at the other end is the Bud Ryan room. A videoboard for Fitton was looked at. The idea was for a portable one that could be moved to other venues. I don't know where that idea stands. One of the complaints about the facilities at Fitton is being addressed. (And, no, it does not involve lights or field turf.)

marginal improvement idea, but bring back women's and men's dh's. i always heard that the limited locker room space made this difficult but the new hart must have enhanced accommodations. suppose i have to add that the women's team would have to improve - a lot ! There are two locker rooms for visiting teams under the upper-level north stands at Hart. The new men's and women's hoops locker rooms are in Luth, on the court level, below the AD office suite. These will not be ready until next season. .
