Tough year for them and they have lost a number of good players over the last couple of years to the transfer portal.

Bentley built a new hockey arena / facility which opened in February of 2018.
Since its opening, they've been 13 games under .500 in Atlantic Hockey.
One would have thought that recruiting (and results) would have improved with the shiny new facility. Can understand why they're making this move.

Hey Bentley, keep your gaze off Coach Riga. Arenas don't win games. Bentley and Sacred Heart were very comfy in their new arena luxury boxes watching Holy Cross in the AHA final.
The further Coach can move the men's hockey program forward, the easier fundraising for a new or upgraded arena will be. Entering a virtuous cycle where good begets more good hopefully.

Under his reign as head coach. Convenient for you to stop at 2006. He has won 277 games. Pearl won more then that at HC!

Bentley shouldn't be your worry regarding Riga, but Colgate likely warrants some!

Don Vaughan was the only D-1 coach to have his head coaching position endowed in his name. He just announced his retirement after an exciting ECAC tournament championship and his fourth NCAA tournament berth.
Thirty-one years in the cozy club of D-1 Hockey (becoming less cozy every year) and only four NCAA appearances with a career record right around .500 hints at how tough a road HC has from a less established program in a lower level league, but also how impressive Coach Riga's progress has been.
You are right, Coach Riga could be an attractive option for Colgate.

they should hire Paul Pearl I suspect it would literally take the King's ransom to get Pearl to come back to college hockey. Two massive words working against it: Transfer Portal - It's miserable.
