DeMorat projected as a UFA; I'd be surprised if others ascend any higher than that.

Only draft possibility will be Anderson. His combine numbers were off the charts and some teams fall in love with that.

Sometimes better to be an UDFA than it is drafted in the later rounds.

How about Greenhagen--did he have good combine numbers?

Thought: The lowest rated FBS players are better than almost all of the very best FCS stars with rare exceptions?Use the UFA route for FCS players. I do not know enough to agree/disagree but I suspect this might very well be the thinking among NFL team talent evaluators.

Maybe. But I suspect that owners who are investing millions, if not billions, and coaching staffs have an innate desire to win and not just go for the proverbial “participation trophy” and will seek the best players/ones that fit into their scheme of playing and won’t care where the player comes from. A player might be a no-name until they prove that they are an NFL winner and the fans will follow.
Big names who fall on their face in the NFL quickly lose their fan base.

The point is to pick someone who fits in with your needs or at least is better than anyone else you can pick. The Pats could be dead wrong about who those persons are; but up to this point their picks have come from Oregon, Ga Tech, Sac State, Troy, Eastern Michigan, Maryland and UCLA. I'd say that's a pretty diverse list of programs.
And the teams all pretty much know what the other teams are thinking, so it's tough to "hide" a guy to a late round or get him as a ufa.

And, FS vs FCS NFL draftees? FBS payers are in the main superior & have a national following which one can't say about FCS players. Personally, I choose to take great pleasure & pride in HC/PL football. Big time FBS football? Not so much!

Obviously there are FCS exceptions which prove the rule. Let's cut to the chase. If nothing else NFL teams have too much invested in the commanding popularity of FBS players. These players come with a built in national following whipped up by the networks & cable. Good for ratings, no? FCS not so much. Hiring a FBS pro athlete is a no brainer. Very wrong. Carson Wentz. Trey Lance. Two top ten draft picks. There are always a handful of FCS players drafted in the first three rounds. Teams are going to pick the best possible player for their team regardless of where he plays college football.

With very few exceptions, no one drafted outside of the first couple of rounds has a “national following.” The teams on which they play might have a national following. The RG on Clemson does not have any more of a national following than the RG on South Dakota State. Teams are going to pick the guys they believe are the players who can help them win. Most of those guys will be FBS players.

A William and Mary OT was picked by the Lions in the 5th round. Kalif paving the way for other FCS guys in Motown.

Thought: The lowest rated FBS players are better than almost all of the very best FCS stars with rare exceptions?Use the UFA route for FCS players. I do not know enough to agree/disagree but I suspect this might very well be the thinking among NFL team talent evaluators. Every year there are somewhere around 250 players drafted by the NFL - numbers vary each year because of compensatory picks awarded by the NFL . There are 130 FBS programs, each with about 100 players on the roster. Assuming players are divided equally across 5 years, and only seniors are eligble to be drafted, that means there are about 2600 players from FBS schools who can be drafted. Truth is there are many more than that. Every year about 20 FCS players are drafted. Which means about 230 FBS players are drafted. So every year 20 FCS players (roughly 8% of the draft) are considered more talented than 90% (2370) of FBS players. Further, every year FCS players represent about 7% - 8% of NFL active rosters and in 2021, And players from FCS & lower division football accounted for 12.3% (about 1 out of 8) of NFL players. Your premise that the bottom FBS players are better than "almost all of the the very best FCS stars" is incorrect and, an NFL GM who has a strategy to go after FCS players only as UFA, will probably not be a GM for long because getting talented players is the name of the game - where ever they come from.

FBS players generally seen as superior to FCS players? Of course. Pride in HC players, even more obvious. However, that does not preclude an excellent FCS player from being drafted; UFA; playing in the NFL and being a star even. You know, like Walter Payton . . . . . or Kalif Raymond.
