Just got more great news, Pete Oliver to the NY Giants. Great work Pete! Fantastic. I became a big fan early in his HC career. I always recall with a smile on my face one of our posters, ever confident, stating before one season "Any team that relies on Peter Oliver as a featured back is not going anywhere" or something to that effect..

Wait til next year with Jake Dobbs and Matt Sluka and maybe even our favorite Canadian (mine anyway), Eric Schon.
As for Derek Ng, he didn't finish the year especially strong but do hope he gets a shot this year.

Peter Oliver’s grandfather is a HC Alum class of 1970. Enjoyed a conversation with him a couple of weeks ago while watching HC Men’s Lax.

0-4. If the Rams had beaten UNH, he would have been in line to go 0-5. That's what can happen in a multiple bid league like the PL. I believe he was 0-5, I was fortunate to be at all 5 games, 18,19, 21(Spring), 21 and 22. Good point. He used his extra year. He could have put the record out of reach if the Rams got by UNH. He was certainly a talented player. I hope he hangs on in the NFL and represents the PL well. The league needs at least two good teams to keep interest going.

Would have been an interesting conversation in families that have both HC and Fordham Alums at Christmas if DeMorat had gone 0-6 against HC. Would have been another incredible battle in the rain last December.

Something tells me there will be plenty of football O'fers v HC graduating across the PL over the next year or two. DeMorat lacks the footspeed and arm strength for the next level but he certainly had a terrific PL career. Sluka (IMHO) might give it a go at a different position - I had a crazy thought he might want to catch a few balls while still at HC. Or do that at grad school.

Showcasing my ignorance on such subjects, am I correct that being invited to a mini-camp is different than signing a contract? Isn't it just like being invited to an open try-out?
At least a couple of my hepatitis victim Classmates were invited to NFL camps back in the day. At least one with real potential was so disgusted with the illness he never even tried.

You would be correct. Generally most invites are just camp bodies, but every year a couple rookie camp invitees impress and get an invite to training camp (usually at the expense of a UDFA). It's a very long road to get onto a roster as just a rookie camp invite, but definitely possible.

Anyone here how Derek Ng has fared? I've met his parents and older sister at games but afraid to ask Derek or them directly. He seemed to have desired consistency with some length in his kicks until the end of last season when you would have hoped he'd be getting better. My fuzzy recollection was that he had gotten some injury at the latter stages of the season (toe? foot?).
Any "insiders" have any info? His family is a class act and would love to see him get a fair shot in the NFL as much for them as him because of all their long trips to watch him play at HC for 5 years.

Absolutely, Liam’s chance of making the Colts 53 man roster or even being there on the Final Cut day in fall camp are considerably higher than John’s and exponentially higher than Peter’s. FYI, Harvard Edge Truman Jones got $236k in guaranteed money from the Chiefs in his UDFA contract. There is real money here if you are a tier one UDFA (as I believe Liam was). You are expected to come in and compete for the 53 man. Liam’s ability on multiple ST’s give him an edge IMO.

With regards to Ng, aren't PK and P invites to NFL camp much more sparse than almost all other positions? Since no team carries a backup. Unless there's an open comp for either of those positions, wouldn't teams refrain from bringing in an additional specialist to camp?

I hope he really "wows" a team if he gets the opportunity...but, I'm not really sure he has the leg or accuracy to be one of the 32 best kickers in the world. There was speculation he may have been kicking injured last season, but even at 100%, I think he's a good college kicker and that's about it. He was 13-22 FG last season (2-7 from 40+). In 2021, 10-17 FG (5-10 from 40+). NFL kickers are making 50+ yard kicks at 70% clip. Ng was 41% from 40+ the last two seasons. I'm not seeing it.

Midwest -- any idea what the latest is with Benton Whitley? Still with the Vikings and, if so, does he have a shot at the 53?

Always nice for teams to have a cheaper option or have a guy ready in case the current kicker gets injured, doesn't seem to have it anymore, etc. You have a month or so until you have to make a decision; plus, if an injury happens later in the year, maybe you bring the new kicker back.

Not only did the Jets sign DeMorat, they invited the QB from Incarnate Word - Lindsey Scott to their mini-camp.
As you remember, DeMorat finished behind Scott for the Walter Peyton award last season(2022) as the best FCS offensive player.

He’s still with the Vikings and if you remember was on the 53 man roster the entirety of his time with them. However, didn’t dress as 5-7 players on the 53 man don’t each week. So “next step” would be to dress in his first regular season NFL game.

Either way, he signed a futures deal with them after the season and will have to earn his way back onto the 53 or the practice squad in camp.
