Shepherd Hill (Dudley-Charlton, MA) star Alec Lindstrom will graduate early from HS in order to enroll at BC.
I have never heard of this. Is it an uncommon practice or happens more often than heard of?
From today's Worcester Telegram:
"Lindstrom will graduate early from Shepherd Hill in order to enroll at BC and participate in spring practices. He said the coaching staff projects him as a center - the position he played this season for the Rams - which means he will literally play right next to his brother, who has been the Eagles' starting right guard since the fourth game of his freshman season."

Very common at the power conferences, esp with the weaker academic schools

Lindstrom's brother Chris did it as did Isaac Yiadom from Doherty who are both at BC. Sean McKeon, Shepherd Hill grad playing TE at Michigan, did it as well. Kids get into the system, get a solid academic start, can workout, and participate in spring ball. Spring semester acts as their redshirt year.

Second semester of most high school kids hs academic career is really more about "playing out the string" more than anything.
I will say this though, for many, it's really the last truly "care-free time of their lives." Kids going to college early will miss a lot of that....prom, graduation, last summah before for college etc.
Depends on the kid, like anything, I suppose.

HC87 I agree with you. I wouldn't want my kids doing it. Plenty of time to grow up. I do see it from a football angle. I think enjoying your high school years more important.

Here's the big benefit
In the Fall of his senior year he will probably be takin ONE COURSE
A few years ago, of the starters on BC 13 of 22 were 5th year or grad players, taking ONE COURSE

Sweet! Being a "student-athlete" without having those pesky academic things, like classes, tests, papers, interfering with your lifestyle.

I could be wrong, but I think this practice is commonly referred to as "gray-shirting."

A gray shirt is actually a kid that enrolls at a school and pays his own way for a year with the understanding that he scholarship is coming.

Leominster's Noah Gray is not playing basketball this year because he is headed to Duke early to start his football career there.
