Livestream as they did for the renovation of the outdoor track and field hockey field. In MB's scheme for improvement to the various fields on the hill, Fr. K field was to get a new surface. www.youtube.com/live/_6zK0FmRVjQ?feature=shareBeyond this, I know nada. -------------------------------------------- The livvestream started about 10:00 AM. Going back in time (the livestream can be scrolled back in time) they appear to be working in the area of the new softball field. ------------------------------------------ I don't think the camera would be positioned where it is, if the scope of work is only the new softball field. So my guess is the project covers the new softball field and the new surface for Fr. K field. Whether the work underway also covers the expansion and conversion from grass to turf for Linda Smith soccer stadium, I know not. ---------------------------------------- Scrolling back in time, the contractor has equipment working on the sidelines of Fr. K field, by the stands.

My guess at the moment is that the project is being done in phases.
Phase 1 was the field hockey field and outdoor track.
Phase 2a, the new surface for Fr. K. field, to be completed in 6-8 weeks. The old rug is being rolled up now.
Phase 2b, the new softball field, to be completed in 4-6 months.
Phase 2c, relocated venues for certain field events, e.g., javelin, hammer. to be completed in 12-14 weeks.
Phase 3a, the new turf field for soccer / lacrosse. To be started ?
Phase 3b, expanded seating for Smith field, and new press box. To be started next year?
Phase 4, new plaza concourse north of Fr. K field, and the softball field. To be started next year?

PP Do you keep these cameras on at night ? Noooooo. The Fr. K. feed popped up in my YouTube recommended videos this morning. Because I have watched Holy Cross-related videos on YouTube in the past, they will typically suggest new Holy Cross videos. The field hockey field renovation ran 24/7, except when it didn't.

^^^Aerial view. The misplaced green pin for Fr. K field is the soccer practice field. A major part of this field will be the site of the new softball field. The field of view of the cam looks across Fr. K field to the soccer practice field. The proposed new plaza concourse (with restrooms?) would go where the shotput venue is; between the practice soccer field and Linda Smith Stadium. Shotput, hammer, discus, Javelin get moved to the right of Smith Stadium. This is now a grass field which can be used for football practice. The construction staging is likely located near the southwest corner of Fr. K. field. This is an access road, HC-owned, from Epworth St. to this area. Holy Cross owns the red-roofed house on Epworth near the 'goal line' on Fr. K. field. It is possible they will bring a water and sewer line from Epworth St. to the new plaza concourse using this property as a right-of-way.

Phreek, how much of all this is based on discussions with HC staff/administrators; how much from your independent research from other sources (i.e. Worcester, construction crews; NSA/CIA, etc.); how much is your extrapolation/best guess/speculation after getting some facts?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Inquiring minds want to know. All of the proposed changes to the fields on top of the Hill were initially proposed by ADMB. KH came on board, reviewed them and said said that what MB proposed was a good plan. KH said at that time the total cost was $17 million, I do not know whether the $17 million included the cost of the new field hockey field and track, or was in addition that. The field hockey field cost about $3 million, but that field includes an expensive watering system. The speed with which they are moving today suggests that the new rug for Fr. K field should be done by July 1 or so. The little tractors running up and down the soccer practice field appear to be preparing it for being scraped. HC likes to store the top layers of soil for future use. If they are going to install a new turf field at Smith stadium this year, they should have started before today to have it ready for soccer practice.. This project has not been submitted to the Planning Board (they may not need to) and no building permits issued (again, permits may not be required for this work.) The contractor is R.A.D. of Rockland, MA. On their website, the show a project for Smith, but it is the grass field for Smith. That's all I am allowed to reveal at the moment.

Going, going, gone. With the amount of equipment the contractor is using, it would appear the work is on a tight schedule. No sign this morning of workers and small tractors at the practice soccer field.

Renovations to Fr. K Field should be completed in time for the Football Showcase. Will be a benefit to show off a brand new field to recruits.

Update: The camera has started streaming again. The contractor has eitherdumped piles of stone aggregate on the field, probably to improve drainage, or they're scraping the existing base.

So, football, if it wanted to practice on grass, would need to use Fitton?
Also, if it's a 17 million dollar price tag, around 10 million of that is for stands and other amenities. Even with the field hockey field costing 3 million, 3 other fields and a running track should come in around a million each.

Even with the field hockey field costing 3 million, 3 other fields and a running track should come in around a million each. Football grass practice field: Until the shotput, javelin, hammer, and discus venues are moved, football can practice on the grass field that is to the east of the soccer stadium. $10 million is high for stands and amenities. I suspect the new turf surface for Smith will be tres cher, as it will be used for lacrosse and soccer. The new turf field might cost $6-10 a square foot, x 80,000+ square feet. A whole new drainage system needs to be constructed. ----------------------- Other than green tractors running up and down the soccer practice field on Monday, there appears to be no further activity on this field. Time is not a constraint when it comes to constructing a new softball field, as the current field is available until a new one is finished. There has yet to be any announcement from the College or KH about the renovation of Fr. K. field. I can only assume that such an announcement would cover the scope of work for what's been started this spring, and whether the scope of work is for more than new turf for Fr. K field. In a way that's not surprising, the College has not publicly announced construction of the new Jesuit residence, even though its nearly complete. All the information that is available is from the Worcester Planning Board's review and public hearing .

We appreciate your periodic intelligence briefings. From looking at the webcam right now, they are scraping the stone aggregate base off the field and hauling it away. This suhhests that a new base will be installed, which ought to increase the cost.

CAF dollars at work or fat cat specific donation?

CAF dollars at work or fat cat specific donation? Not CAF. AFAIK, the monies are coming from the College's operating budget. If there was a fat cat, there probably would have been a ceremonial ground-breaking or shovel-lifting. But there are naming opportunities still, --for the generous-mined. (No, that's not a hint, but if Providence Plantationers would like to gift a large video board for Smith stadium, I'm sure the college would be eternally grateful).

You must have me mixed up with someone who is independently wealthy. [think of the "widow's mite" when you think of me. Warning: Digression ahead: Anyone else remember "Mite Boxes" that the nuns gave us at Lent and we saved our pennies and nickels and a few dimes but not quarters - that was big bucks!]

Every certain amount ($25.00?) we got to put a sticker of a dark skinned child on a poster showing one more baby had been "saved."

Well, we prayed "for the conversion of Russia." Allegedly, the second coming would not be until after Russia was "converted" but not sure if Orthodox Christianity counted . . . . if so, the end of days is neigh.
