Someone on WFAN called in with some old tale that Jim Brown also played baseball at Manhassat and would hop the fence from the lacrosse field to DH when his spot came up in the order. However, the host pointed out that the DH rule was still 20 years away from existence at that point and cast doubt on the story.

Also doubt the story, but he did letter in baseball, lax and track & field- all spring sports- at Manhasset I knew his track coach and he told me Jim played lax but coaches made extensive efforts to get him into baseball games (sometimes after a shortened lax practice and sometimes just a handful of innings) and track events (sometimes immediately after lax practice, sometimes after a few innings, and sometimes on Saturdays). Manhasset’s athletic fields and track are essentially on top of each other BTW. And he was ‘great’ at all 3. Manhasset was extraordinarily supportive of Jim Brown and Jim always publicly thanked the community.
