Got there a bit late but enjoyed the meeting enormously. Anyone else feel their heart skip a beat when Matt spoke of his future at HC as "a year or two more?"

The spirit of the coaches and players seems to know no bounds. One of the top tasks for veterans will be to prepare the incoming players who will be the depth they will need as support!

Favorite professor of both players--Fr. Clarke.

Pretty sure Matt said his favorite was Fr. Reiser for a theology course and then Jake agreed and then said Fr. Clarke. I was impressed that both of their favorite professors were Jesuits considering there are so few of them on campus and even fewer actually teaching. I'm working on getting the link to the Zoom from TPTB to share with my Classmates and, as they used to say, "let's go to the videotape."

Any football-related news for those of us who were out coaching baseball? Dr. Naismith nailed a peach basket to the wall to keep you baseball and football guys busy during the winter.

Not much nuts & bolts. Matt said his personal goals for next season are national championship and winning the Walter Payton award.
BC said that we weren't ready physically for BC his first time but we will be this season (I paraphrase). He said that this was "the most physical spring" we've had.
Jake said that he is stronger now than before his injury and he learned a lot from being on the sidelines, implying that his injury might have been a long-term blessing in disguise. Again, my personal take.
Chu, RGS, Crucis, EFG and others were on as well and may have either a different take or other items to report out.

Coach James was asked, who is someone you see stepping up this year on defense. Coach responded with Jake Jarmolowich. He really did not get to play much previously, given the strength we had in the secondary.
Sluka was asked if he would consider sliding at the end of his runs. He said maybe l’ll try that once or twice this year. Coach Chesney was fine with that except he did say, he might want to consider it when we play against bigger teams.
Dobbs mentioned that Holy Cross offers it all, a shot at playing at the next level or a great job opportunity.
The zoom meeting was mostly a feel good session, I enjoyed it.

I was on the zoom as well. The two points I enjoyed the most were Matt Sluka stating one OR two years left to play at HC and Coach Chesney stating with LOTS of confidence in this team’s ability to beat BC. Loved the statement.

I believe there was a question along the lines of which was the most important game this season and BC gave an answer that I've heard many times before from him, that the most important game is the one coming up. He's big on not looking too far down the road. Win the next game and worry (really, prepare) for the next game after that as that will become the most important game.

IIRC Jake actually said the injury may have been a blessing in disguise since he is now getting ready for his best season ever at Holy Cross, using what he learned last season watching and assisting from the sidelines. He sounded very much like a future coach, IMHO.

When asked about the incoming group, BC said its large, 35, to replace the 4th & 5th Covid yr seniors in 2 yrs & important that they adjust to the program culture starting in the summer.

Considering my advancing age and inherited lousy hearing, that's what I thought I heard but didn't want to post that definitively.
As for being a future coach, I think that's an absolute possibility after his NFL days are over.
Don't think it's been posted yet but Jake is super pleased about Liam's shot at the NFL and he's keeping in close touch with him.
I can see Jake heading back to Holy Cross a la Chris Smith, to coach. But he's got to give the NFL a legitimate shot.
Slightly off topic, I do hope to see Avery LaBarbera on the Holy Cross women's basketball bench as coach one day soon.

I really enjoyed the call as well. I must say, it was the most positive Holy Cross related sports program that I have ever been a part of! (With the possible exception of watching Holy Cross beat Syracuse for the second time in a row in 1958).
The overall impression that was given off by everyone during the discussion was that we expect big things. We are shooting for the national championship. We understand how good we are, and we are willing to put in the work to stay that way. Coach Chesney said that he and the entire team approach every game with confidence that they can win. He said this in response to a question about how he thinks we will do against our two FBS opponents this fall. I am trying to temper my excitement, there are three months to go!

Waiting stinks! I am already setting up future schedules to allow me to see all football and basketball games (whenever possible).

Speaking of 5th years, any indication from Coach Chesney as to whether he thinks we’ll move to 5th year non-medical redshirts once all the Covid 5th years move thru the program? Clock is ticking as Sluka’s year group is the last of the Covid 5th years. (Don’t see a realistic run at the national championship without non-medical 5th years.)

I believe the recent PL scholarship/roster rules changes did not change the non/med red shirts, (i.e. a bridge to far at this time?) The academic waiver provision bachelor degree remains, which seems to allow for a double major/ 9 semester senior who has eligibility.
