I wondered about that as well- it could be that he is being honored for starting the rowing team, not for his actual performance as a rower

Wouldn't such folks as Jack Moriarty, Jack Scott, Joe McDonough, Nick Manzello, Mr. Entertainment all be considered "honorary"?

Here is the honorary list. I think you have to be an alum/athlete to be a regular member. As you can see, the honorary list includes, coaches, Father Hart, Father K, a groundskeeper, etc. goholycross.com/news/1999/7/31/210240792.aspx

He should be a regular member.

I wouild agree that he should be a regular member. Perhaps he is listed as "honorary" because of the work he did to establish thde team after he was an active HC athlete.

I am curious as to what the posters who are Varsity Club members think on this matter.

I am not a member of the Varsity Club but I'll provide a POV. I think it all depends on the charter for the Hall of Fame -does it say that it is specifically for distinguished athletic performance? If, instead, it is intended to honor the great contributors to HC athletic history it opens itself up to others such as coaches and announcers. I don't think the Baseball Hall of Fame has "honorary" members but the Hall makes a distinction that separates the players from the "Executives", "Managers", and "Umpires" who receive full honors as far as I can tell. You can see,, for example, that Joe Torre, a very good player, was enshrined as a "manager", not as a player. The same holds true forothers like Bucky Harris and Al Lopez. Branch Rickey was a player and a manager buti s enshrined as an "executive". In like fashion, HC could honor Ralph Willard as a Coach , Father Hart as a chaplain, Bob Fouracre as a broadcaster---drop the "honorary" designation-

Here’s my perspective. It is the “VARSITY Club” HOF. As such, if you didn’t earn a varsity letter, anyone else admitted is probably honorary.
