1. I agree about the refs. They went through a period where they seemed to call everything - even some things that did not appear to happen. 2. What was the double technical all about??? 3. CLS seems to be finding a place and geting comfortable with the team's style of play.

Ziggy seems to be the only guy when he makes a cut to the basket and gets the ball a little behind him to be able to make a reverse layup.

Great analysis by Tom--love the insights. I thought the same thing about JF's blocks--certainly highlight reel material but it's even better when you can have a soft deflection into a Crusader's hands. That's probably too much to ask for on some blocks as so much effort and timing go into making the block itself and the player may not have time to be lloking around for the outlet. JF's overall play is greatly improved in my opinion.
One thing I like about Clayton LeSann: he puts lots of zip on his passes--makes them much harder to steal. I hate the nonchalant passes we see from time to time.....

Karl's numbers have improved in some respects over last year - FG%, 3FG%, assists - but he is fouling more (3.7 per 40m vs. 3.0 per 40 last season), and it is becoming costly. He's fouled out or had 4 fouls in four of the last six games, two of which (UNH, Maine) Holy Cross arguably would have won had he been able to give us 30+ quality minutes - and more than last year, our lack of depth is exposed when he's on the bench.
As for Le Sann, he got a total of 3 minutes - the fact that this might seem "meaningful" and that he was "standing where he was supposed to be" sounds like damning-with-faint-praise. One of our two freshmen - and it is more likely Le Sann than Stevens - really needs to force his way into the rotation soon, especially if KC's foul troubles continue.

First time in 3 years I have been able to see HC in person. defense was disappointing early but seemed to pick up a spark from AT. Sacred Heart was able to pass through the zone and finish down low (Lopez) midway through the first half. Too many empty possessions on offense in the last 4 minutes of the game, seemingly milking the clock. Popcorn passing against pressure didn't help either.
But a win in that gym is still a win and MA was a beast. RC spent way too much time whining and complaining about the officiating. When he was pulled after his 3rd or 4th foul, he whined and was told to be quiet in a less polite manner by CBC. Let Carmody complain (which he did). Be quiet and focus on playing.
We are visiting family in CT for two weeks and after 5 years as a Floridian,I know I am happy for warmth. But it is great to see 4 of my children and my oldest grandson and take him to the game last night. Also happy to see Sader81 after the game for a handshake. Hoping my grandson never sees him in court.
Wishing all posters a blessed Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year. Go, Cross, Go!

Believe MH had a soft block that he personally recovered. But, JF's blocks are definitely more dramatic and maybe get the teammates and fans adrenaline rushing.

Seemed like they felt the game was getting too chippy for a few minutes and decided to call everything. Some were pretty ridiculous both ways. Beginning with 16:39 left in the game, they called 6 personal fouls over the next 1:44. They then called the double technical for reasons not clear to those of us in the stands but there was certainly nothing physical between the players. Shortly after the technicals, they called 4 personal fouls in a 0:55 span. From the 16:39 mark to the 13:24 mark, they called 10 personal fouls plus the two technicals. For the next 13+ minutes, they called 3 fouls until there were a few more in the last 11 seconds.

I know it's good to get the block and then possession but there is something about those dramatic blocks that can fire up a team and make the opponent think twice about coming in the lane again.

Refs don't get paid per foul called, do they?

Meaningful in that they were in contested game in the first half - as opposed to the final two minutes of a 30 point blowout. Didn't mean to damn LeSann. I thought it was worth noting he got minutes in a game that was still up for grabs. Something that is rare for him. I just couldn't say much other than he was out there and didn't look lost. His time on the court just didn't produce any noteworthy moments, positive or negative

Can the bar be set any lower for CLS, he seems comfortable in the system and makes crisp passes, when is he going to make a play there are freshmen throughout the PL who are making an impact.

His time on the court just didn't produce any noteworthy moments, positive or negative Hits the nail on the head - this is the impression consistently created in his limited moments to date. Maybe the best example was the Maine game when he played 11 minutes, and didn't do anything worth a notation in the box score - nothing positive (a basket, rebound, assist) or negative (miss, foul, turnover). For uncanny performances of this type, see "Club Trillion." offthedribble.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/12/23/keeping-score-after-an-unproductive-minute-one-of-the-trillions/

You guys have to give CLS a break. He's doing fine. He's a handful of games into his freshman season of D-1 basketball. We have had many players who became stars at HC who did very little in their first dozen games. Time will tell what type of players he and Stevens become. If they're still not contributing much as juniors, that will tell us something.

...there are freshmen throughout the PL who are making an impact. Yes, but much of their impact seems to be in the losses of their team. Trying to compare time on the court in a loss to "making an impact" in a win is not a valid comparison IMHO.

One other note on Jehyve Floyd: he made 7 free throws in 22 attempts last year while this year he has also made 7--but in only 9 attempts. I don't know that he'll hold thayt stellar percentage all year long but it does look like he has improved

Curiously, one freshman who isn't doing much is Bruce Moore at Bucknell. He was named the pre-season ROY in some publication(s) in October - so far, he's only playing about 7mpg and averaging 2 points.
Tyler Scanlon (BU), Matt Wilson and Tommy Funk (Army), Pat Andree (Lehigh), and Andrew Kostecka (Loyola) are some first-year players around the PL who seem to be helping their teams win games.

Army's two strong frosh are getting time both because of their talent and because just about every strong player on Army graduated last season. Funk is the stronger of the two players and has been getting serious minutes since their first game.

I probably made the exact same assessment of some of Benzan's games last year and he's a solid contributor as a soph.

Well put, Tom. PS: I agree with the earlier posts that said the SHU announcers were awful (or could have improved to "awful' with a bit more practice).

One more generic game note. It had to be kind of discouraging for Sacred Heart to be in a tight game in their own building and have most of the noise be pro-HC

Just got home. I'll take any win we can get at that God-forsaken place. The boys did a good job bringing the noise in Dave's absence. Malachi was obviously huge. Foul trouble definitely hurt us but happy to get a W. I just KNEW you and the boys were there - a couple of Sacred Heart free throws gave it away. You guys all did a great job supporting the guys; as Tom alluded to, it also probably took some steam out of the home team,
