Our first league win - have to get significant momentum from here to have a chance at the playoffs fyg, you can't save a penalty corner (a stat that Lehigh dominated) - but our sr goalie Brooke Ross again stood tall with 12 saves

Queens is in their 2nd year in D.1 and are now 0-13 so this was a nice midweek workout Can’t slip up vs Colgate which is winless in the PL and comes to HC for 4pm game on Friday

Those who mention Queens and not Lehigh clearly are very selective in looking at the three straight wins.

Those who mention the our sole PL win this season are overlooking our 3 league losses in a year with no dominant team - we should be a playoff team with the talent that we have especially a very special goalie

The goalie is indeed special.

Field hockey beats Colgate 4-0. The HC goalie was said to have over 100 saves this season (highest number in the country).

After winning their last 4 games vs some ordinary opposition the team plays its last PL match tmro against 1st place American in DC. We’re 2-3 in the league and this is a must win to qualify for the playoffs

Lost to AU 2-1 - we were outshot 29-1 so their goalie made zero saves while ours had to make 15 to keep us in the game - gonna miss the playoffs

That's a great shot disparity, can't win with that domination.

How many scholarships does HC offer for FH? How many do our PL opponents offer? Anyone know? For Title 9 purposes, we are matching the 60 football scholarships somewhere. I know it is not track because the men and women have the same number there, i. e., one.

FH did pick up a win as they stopped off in Towson on the way back and beat Towson 3-2 If the team beats Lindenwood and Fairfield this weekend, they'll eek out a winning season

That would be a good thing wouldn't it? Fabulous. "Starve a minor sport, feed a major sport" has been the cold remedy at HC for a while so to have one of our non-scholarship sports have a winning season is terrific.

FIeld hockey is not a "non-scholarship sport" at Holy Cross. They have fewer scholarships than the top teams but certainly not close to zero.

Perhaps they are using scholarships to help recruiting in Commonwealth countries such as England, South Africa and Canada. Smart because that helps broaden diversity at HC to the benefit of all students, so two missions of the college addressed with each international recruit.

I know it is not track because the men and women have the same number there, i. e., one. Women's Rowing is used at most schools to offset the opportunities part of Title IX. True, except that HC offers men's rowing and the men's squad would appear to be larger at quick glance. HC meets the opportunities test, at least in part, by offering field hockey and volleyball which don't have corresponding men's sports. I would have to go through all of the rosters to see, but it is possible that some of the men's rosters are kept smaller than the women's to help meet this requirement. But, in addition to opportunities, scholarship distribution also has to be roughly equivalent to the percentage of male v. female athletes. I continue to wonder exactly how HC is doing it. We might be able to better judge the relative success of our teams if we had this not well circulated information. Bison is good at this stuff, so I believe him that HC has more than zero scholarships for FH. I wish we could figure out the exact numbers and also be able to compare those to other PL schools. Of course, in so many sports the service academies are at a huge advantage. See this link for an brochure from the Department of Education on the basics of Title IX www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/docs/ocr-higher-ed-athletic-resource-202302.pdf

I think FH is allowed up to 12 scholarships. IIRC, it was one of the first to receive scholarships after football regained them several years ago. If I had to guess they probably have somewhere between 6-8 that are divided between various players.
