Walk off home run by Navy in extra innings
Can't help but think that without the sacrifice bunts we might have scored one more run in first nine innings

What a major disappointment in such a well played and especially well pitched game by our starter. Ugh!!!

This blows. How many times does DiCenzo have to get burned by this foolish tactic until he lets the hitters swing the bat? It's a metaphor for insanity.

Hopefully we win the series but, if we don't, we have to consider moving on from DiCenzo. He's made the program very respectable but, at some point, we have to win and maybe abandon strategies that fail far more often than they succeed. .

While we left 9 men on base, Navy didn't do much better by leaving 8 on board. While I haven't watched many HC baseball games, I would agree that there seems to be an unusually high number of bunts/attempted bunts. "Small ball," anyone? I'll leave it to Nate Pine whether the baseball coach stays or goes.

Bill Schlick and Bobby Indeglia have been our two best hitters all year, leading the team in BA and OBP.
Indeglia sacrificed in the 7th, and Schlick in the 8th. Total insanity.

What's going on with game 2? Double header (if necessary) tomorrow. 12 and 3.

Given the success Carm had in year one, the heat is turned up on DiCenzo, Gilmore, as well as any other long-time middling coaches in minor sports NP hasn't launched yet. I believe NP was in charge of baseball at UMd, so I think it's in DiCenzo's best long-term interest to win both games tomorrow.

Today's forecast: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Patchy fog between 8am and 11am. High near 70. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. ___________________________________
For those threatening the HC's tenure, CHC spends less on baseball than any other PL school. I expect ADNP looks hard at the resources you were given as a coach, and what you were able to achieve with those resources.

Agree that resources should be a consideration, particularly if we can get an apples-to-apples comparison (which always seems almost impossible) but resources have nothing to do with the decisions the coach makes during games that cost us wins.

Weather chanel says that Annapolis will get rain starting at about 3:15. Looks good for at least one game today. Hopefully, two will be needed.

That may be true, but funding is up significantly (with the inclusion of direct donations to the Baseball program) since he has taken over as coach...and funding doesn't affect your decision to sacrifice bunt with your best hitters.

Thought it was strange how signals to the batter come from the dugout. At Fitton, given the angle, the RH batter has to do almost a 180 to see the coach. Could be disruptive to the hitter I thought as they do this turn for every pitch. No signals from 3rd base coach anymore?

we're the home team in game 2 - no score after 1 1/2 innings. for those that hate the sac bunt, coach did not use it in the first inning after a leadoff single. reese pitching in must-win situation.

After pushing two runs across in the 3rd inning to extended our lead to 3-0, CGD puts the handcuffs on a big inning with a sacrifice bunt, attempting to push runners to 2nd and 3rfd. Navy throws to third base though for the force out. Way to go, CGD.
Of course, the next batter up singles to center field.
