Remember the down pouring rain at the Colgate game. Oh wait it never rained at all. Crowd needs to be big and loud all we got this week.
Mystique don’t fail me now!

HC is the Analyst's "under the radar game of the week" Patriot: Lafayette (5-1, 1-0) at No. 15 Holy Cross (4-2, 2-0) Under-the-Radar Game of the Week Kickoff: 1 p.m. (ESPN+) Notable: Holy Cross (19 straight wins over PL opponents/18 in regular season) seeks to take a big step toward claiming what would be a record fifth straight league title. The Crusaders’ last league loss was against Lafayette at Fitton Field in 2019, and they needed a Matthew Sluka-to-Justin Shorter TD pass with four minutes remaining to win last year’s game. Sluka has 20 combined TDs this season, with RB Jordan Fuller coming in as the FCS scoring leader (14 TDs). The Leopards already have five wins for the first time since 2014. Jamar Curtis is averaging 131.6 rushing yards against FCS opponents (four of his five games over 100 yards), and the defense has racked up an FCS-high 27 sacks (linebacker Billy Schaeffer leads with 5.5). If it is pouring rain wouldn't we adjust this week as we prepare and put more players in the box Perhaps someone will ask if we have a basket of tricks/adjustment if there is a down pour on the zoom call - only getting a yes answer I guess but worth the ask. I think HC needs to go with a 5 man defensive line and utilize run blitzes and D backs need to play tight on the receivers to stifle their O, JMO! To date, Lafayette has 27 sacks while HC only has 10.

Talk about competitive. HC/Lafayette tied for first place in PL (with the unlikely Hoyas), HC/Lafayette all time series tied at 18-18, Series tied at Fitton 9-9.

I wouldn't be surprised to see more Purdy tomorrow for catching and a Forrest appearance to block. We don't seem to run screens which is always an option against an aggressive blitz.

From the NWS service forecast this AM,
Cold front moves through around noon, wind shifts to the NW and increases in velocity through the afternoon. Rain tapers off after 1 PM, with passage of the front. Thunderstorm potential in the morning, ending by noon.

Going to bring my rain jacket and waterproof pants nonetheless. I like the updated forecast, hopefully it continues to improve as the morning news was about ready to tell people in Central and Western Mass to start building an ark!

Hero Sports...
Lafayette at No. 15 Holy Cross
Lafayette, a 4-7 squad last year, is off to a 5-1 start and a 1-0 record in the Patriot League. Jamar Curtis is already up to 700 yards on the ground and four scores. But the Leopards will run into the conference juggernaut.
Holy Cross has been knocked out of many seed discussions after its 38-28 loss to Harvard on Sept. 30. The Crusaders don’t have a ranked opponent on the schedule, making style points important. There is an FBS game vs. Army in November for a playoff-resume-boosting opportunity.
The Holy Cross defense has been up and down this year with some new starters. The unit is still anchored by middle linebacker Jacob Dobbs, one of the top defenders in the FCS. He’ll be big in containing Curtis. Expect HC to continue its hot offensive play, which ranks No. 4 in the FCS with 41.5 points per game.
Prediction: Holy Cross 42-24

On the injury front - hearing that sr. DT Dillon Springer is doubtful for tmro due to injury from Bucknell game - further concerning with Laffy's run game certainly a big part of their game plan

Good news for the dad of one of our defensive linemen. His employer has decided not to work through the weekend. Hopefully, he can get to Worcester for Family Weekend.

Nice try with the camouflage It wouldn't have been effective if it was really well camouflaged.

I'll be there, but I'm leaving central MA for South West Florida as soon as my son graduates high school. I've had it with this weather.

Talk about competitive. HC/Lafayette tied for first place in PL (with the unlikely Hoyas), HC/Lafayette all time series tied at 18-18, Series tied at Fitton 9-9. Could this be, dare I say it, a rivalry? Lafayette has close to the same number of male students as HC. While their total students are less, 51% are male. Both are true liberal arts undergraduate colleges ranked 27 and 30 nationally. Both have proud athletic histories with Lafayette winning the national championship in football in 1896. The Leopards are this year's biggest PL rival so far and have similar vested interests as HC in league meetings. The better they do this year the easier it might be to get them to join HC, Fordham and maybe others in supporting non-medical red shirts for football. If they get into the playoffs I imagine their campus will be quite enthused about FCS FB. Not many other D-1 sports like FCS FB that tiny (for D-1 purposes) schools like HC and Lafayette can increase chances of national significance with a modest policy change.

The latest forecast from the NWS has the cold front now coming through Worcester several hours later than predicted, with a chance of thunderstorms between 11AM and 2 PM. Winds shift to the north and increase to 20 mph during the game.
