On the one hand Army football has had its challenges the last two years (just 4 FCS wins last year, only 1 so far this year) but… There are plenty of reasons for No. 19 Air Force to bask a bit in all the team has accomplished so far.
At 7-0, the Falcons are tied for the fourth-best start in school history. Their current ranking is the program’s highest in two decades... apnews.com/article/air-force-falcons-colorado-state-rams-6077b06b9516e2682938fde041cd66ff

I wonder if Army built in some language into their scheduling agreements that lowers their buyout if they cancel games due to joining a conference.
Anyway, in terms of FCS games, Army has (had) Dartmouth in '24 and Marist and Lafayette in '25. Any buyouts there are probably minimal, but it'll be tough for Dartmouth to get another game on that date at this point.
Army and Air Force have usually played the first Saturday in November for as far back as I can remember. I have to think that while the Air Force game will always be played, both schools will have to get used to playing it on another weekend.

The Dartmouth game in '24 and 1 of the 2 FCS games in '25 might stick. Army will want a guaranteed home game for at least one of its two available OOC games each year, if not both.
The Umass home and home probably goes bye bye.

We wouldn't deep six our neighbors down Rte. 146 and take the Pike West a few exits would we? UMass and Dartmouth playing each other would make more sense.

Perhaps if we didn't ask for the UMass game to be a buy game, but UMass has not shown much interest in playing us since they dropped to the doldrums of G5 FBS.

Or would all four teams involved agree to Dartmouth vs Bryant and HC vs UMass, lubricated by checks from Army? Or would anyone prefer CAA Bryant vs UMass and PL HC vs IL Dartmouth?

Army will probably keep Dartmouth because they will want an "easy" game at home.
Its the G5 home and homes that will be most likely be shed, like UMASS/UConn.
Unlike Army who will have 2 flexible OOC dates every year in the AAC, Navy only has ONE (due to the annual ND game). And they play an FCS basically every year, usually the home opener.

The payout would probably be barely enough to cover the Silver Fox gas bill, but it would still be a very very small payday.

Contracts are signed at least a year out, more if it's a home-and-home. If you want to drop a team there's a buy-out. (There's a buy-out if you want to drop your wife for a younger chick too, I think the analogy is pretty good . . .)

Upon reflection on this Army scheduling matter, I think we have a better chance to get on their schedule once every decade simply because we're an FCS team and their one win per season over an FCS opponent is needed for their bowl resume

Does the hosting FBS team take into consideration how well the opposing team's fans travel", i.e. whether there will be substantial ticket sales to the visitors? I know this would not apply to FBS teams that sell out every game regardless of opponent. Would HC bring more paying fans to West Point than, say, Richmond or Wm & Mary, for example?

It really depends on what weekends get gobbled up for conference play in the AAC schedule. Maybe there's some flexibility there, Army could request to keep certain weekends earmarked for non-conference games. The AAC schedule is likely set already for at least a few years, so if they're just plugging Army in for SMU then there might not be any wiggle room. Not sure if they're using this as a complete revamp of the schedule.

The Army game has always been very well attended by HC alums in the tri-state (NY, NJ and CT) areas. My guess is that we will remain on their 5-10 year or so FCS rotation game moving forward.
