When was the last time HC beat Georgetown? KY's senior year. Jan. 25, 1975. 108-86.

Thanks for that summary video. It looked/sounded like the announcers expected the Hoyas to put it away at several points.
FWIW I thought Coach Cooley did a professional (and sincere) job in the presser, takling all responsibility on himself for that loss. His citing the HC toughness and focus several times was good to hear.

In watching the highlights and seeing Batch take that very ill-advised three, can we assume he thought we were trailing 67-66? Only explanation, right?

I'd bet he got lost in the game, Joe O. missed his 3, Batch had an open one, better take it....Brain fart, move on, we won....He will learn from it....

In watching the highlights and seeing Batch take that very ill-advised three, can we assume he thought we were trailing 67-66? Only explanation, right? HC was winning, maybe 10 seconds left. Joe O. takes a shot and misses, rebound ends up with Batch and --Oh No!--he shoots it instead of dribbling out the clock. Fortunately he doesn't have to live with HC losing. It looks like Batch didn't score in the game, which is concerning. What was he thinking?--who knows.

From what I have heard, Batch was emotionally devastated when he realized what he had done. I have to think such a move - losing awareness of the game situation - will not happen soon again for him. BTW - What did take place - batting the ball around and giving Georgetown only 2.1 sec to make a play - may have been better than a couple of foul shots (if both were made) with the Hoyas having about 9 seconds left to score. Just a thought.

A quick look at the boxscore, we outscored them in the paint 38-18, out rebounded them 41-31, and had 18 points to 17 Georgetown second chance points...Playing mostly the veteran guys, they did the job!

I think hes just a young kid who was pressing. He hadn't scored yet and that's a shot he probably hits more often than not when he's feeling good. I think he just wanted to make the big play and made a bad split second choice.
And as Dave noted, I though Batch did a really nice job defensively, so hopefully he doesn't beat himself up too much

It is such a good feeling to read all these positive post about Holy Cross men's basketball! I can't remember the last time this board had so many positive posts, such an uplifting feeling! I've always been a half filled glass kind of fan, today my glass is overflowing! When was the last time HC beat Georgetown? Looking forward to Tuesday's home opener even more than yesterday! GO CROSS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Crusaders snapped a six-game losing streak against the Hoyas, defeating Georgetown for the first time since Jan. 25, 1975, in the Auditorium, I REMEMBER this win. Michael Vicens literally ran over Georgetown's best player, Michael took off for a layup, and put his foot into the chest of the guy. That was the end of the kids play, he stood at half court when HC had the ball ,wouldn't go close to Vicens again...I think it might have been John Thompson's first year.... Great anecdote and I was there to see it. This captures the essence of the great Michael Vicens-while he had great statistics, hie was able to affect the play of the game in so many other ways-a perfect example here.

I almost fell off the chair when Batchelder took that shot with seconds on the clock. Great win in DC. Must have been a great trip back to Worcester. In the presser linked, Coach Paulsen is asked about it. The assistants all went up to Paulsen and told him they had this and don't kill him

First win at Big East since 1999-2000 at Providence ? Technically, at Notre Dame in the 2005 NIT. I forgot that ND was in the Big East. Forgot about that one. That was a Big East road win Reasonable to assume it will be a long time before there is a home win against the Big East. There might be a 2 for 1 with PC or UConn, with the one at the Centrum. That might technically be an HC home game as opposed to a neutral court

Fortunately, I was able to view the Georgetown game on FS2. Octave was amazing but it was a team effort which brought the win. One had to watch this team fight & struggle to appreciate the toughness & grit of HC. The guys simply were hungrier. They outfought & out hustled a bigger G'town team. HC dominated the boards & the floor especially in the 2nd half. It was a great defining win. GoCrossGo.

However looking at it now, it was actually beneficial to HC. Had he not taken the shot, he would have been fouled quickly. If he made both, HC would have been up 3 with around 6 seconds left...LOTS of time for G'Town to get up a good looking 3 to tie. The miss created an almosy 4 second play that changed what G'town could do!

2nd game in a row that HC down at arms length with about 5 to go, and HC did not wilt and actually took the lead. That resiliency could be valuable going forward

All of a sudden Georgetown has enough time to get a look for the win. Why didn’t any of the reporters question Cooley what he was looking to do on that inbounds play at the end of the game? That was awful.

Trivia: Ralph Willard's first win at HC was also at a Big East opponent (Providence).

Nice win. I love seeing both Cooley and Georgetown lose.
I am old enough to remember watching Georgetown actually visit the Hart Center some 40+ years ago. The game was televised on Channel 27.

My good buddy from Providence College and I were talking yesterday about just what will happen when Cooley returns to Providence to face the Friars. I believe it will get obscene and ugly
You can bet on it. Some of the PC fans are the nastiest around. Beers and sex toys have been thrown onto the court during games. Player's family have come onto the court from their seats during play. Many Friar fans have for months been slandering Cooley on social media. They want blood. It is certain to get very ugly.

Outplayed and out-coached them. Truly awful play called by Cooley for the final possession. To be fair, it sounded like he was drawing up something for them to advance the ball and then call another timeout. But the refs announced (after another looooong delay) that the clock was being reset from 3.5 seconds to 2.1. That totally blew up the play he drew up during the timeout. Of course, he should have called another TO to draw up another play and didn’t. Bank error in HC’s favor. Exactly. Or perhaps he wanted to call time out on the catch, but the pass/catch was so terrible they never had a chance. Are we sure the reason it went down to 2.1 was it stopped during the rebound action....or did it have something to do with Kenney either saving or not saving it?
