It's a smart move for Chesney. Cignetti has already built the program. All Chesney has to do is maintain it and beat lousy sunbelt teams for three years and then move up. It may be the worst fbs conference, but it's still fbs head coaching experience to add to the resume.

Ches may not go 11-1 every year but I would expect continued excellence. In 6 years, this same thread will pop up on the JMU board.

If he is offered and accepted, I think it will speak to the fact that he settled for a job that got him away from the limitations of the FCS and PL requirements. He might have used JMU as an escape when he had the chance, as there are no guarantees about tomorrow. If he wins six games a year he qualifies for a bowl game and doesn't need to deal with the FCS Committee.

Especially during a coach transition time. My understanding is JMU’s star QB is in the portal and may be joining Cignetti in Indiana, for example. And Cignetti may poach a top JMU commit or two. www.thedailyhoosier.com/jmu-starting-qb-in-the-portal-iu-offers-top-jmu-recruit/

Instead of a graveyard for coaches HC can be a birthplace for future great FBS coaches. We can hope HC will be an attractive landing spot for great young coaches on the way up. Coaches & students can indeed have it all at HC.(Depends on one's definition of "all" but we always knew that.)

Don't want to be a pain but the facts are... From 1963 to 1980 HC had 3 winning records. Coach Cater's first season in 1981 HC posted its fourth. The wonderful golden era of the '80's-early 90's and BC's recent success have not been the rule. I'm talking about the 1-AA/FCS era from 1982 to today. With scholarships, we have been mostly very good during that era: 1982-1991 and 2014 to today.

For what it is worth...My son, an HC Grad, is on a flight to Las Vegas that left Boston this morning, and he texted me that Chesney is on his plane.

You should tell him to switch seats with the folks behind Bob and try and read his phone messages.
Mostly joking here

Ok, let's think about the logistics of this since we know our coach is on his way to Sin City. If BC is being named the new head coach at JMU, one would assume that he would want to meet with his Holy Cross players simultaneously with some sort of press release from JMU. If that was to happen today, that would mean the meeting would have to be virtual. If he wants to do it in person tomorrow, he can take the red eye back tonight and meet with the team tomorrow afternoon. If he flies tomorrow morning, he can't meet with them until tomorrow night. Then, presumably, he has to get on another plane and fly to Virginia. I am sure JMU wants to make the announcement and get to work on keeping its players and rerecruiting its incoming class.

And what will be the impact on JMU and many others when the new professional (former college) conference settles ? The snowball has just begun its massive hill roll.

I think Jake has been there for a day or two Yup. Jake/HC posted a video of him yesterday in Vegas. Side note: Jake has an angry old man stalker from Lafayette weirdly obsessed with him.

So, in effect, Coach BC has entered the transfer portal and is merely waiting for an FBS program to pick him up? Hard for me to process. Deal w/it. I know.

Many students (certainly those from HC) have posted nice notes of thanks to HC when they entered the portal. Think we'll see anything like that from their coach? I would hope so.

I'm mainly annoyed at how long this has dragged out. I would hope if he's leaving he's already told the school and they're working on the next hire. Otherwise, we end up starting the search on like Thursday. one day before the kids are set to arrive.
And with the whole "JMU has AD/HC candidates that want to work together" report, if Kit leaves too, I don't know if I really want him involved in the search at this point. If his foot is out the door, we need to be moving on yesterday.

If Coach Chesney stays, the Chesney era is far from ovah. Hold off on the interviews. Who is going to interview for an occupied position?
Who wants to be the victim of inevitable leaks and rumors if there isn't a real job currently available?
It's getting a little dramatic. JMU isn't going to sign Chesney at a Vegas wedding chapel.
