Nothing new, Jen reporting based upon "multiple reports" of BC leaving for JMU

Yeah, the point is they're reporting it as done, which you can see from the headline.

Is JMU the big time? Seems like the medium-time, at best.

Is JMU the big time? Seems like the medium-time, at best. Chesney needs success at JMU's level in order to be a serious candidate for a top P5 job.

They're ranked no.24 in the country (fbs) - is that good enough for you ?

That Power 5 thing is overated. JMU is ranked higher in the polls this year then many power 5 teams.

Literally this minute got an email from the College confirming he’s going to James Madison.

Let's get Chris Smith back, only because he knows all the words to the school song.

I like the “Chesney Model”, a proven head coach even if from a lower division Also known as the “Rick Carter/Bob Chesney Model”. The "Duffner Model" worked out OK, too.

Is JMU the big time? Seems like the medium-time, at best. Not big time but hard to imagine a better next job for him. JMU gives him the best shot at ultimately getting a really big-time job. They’re going to win a lot. At a place like Syracuse, a really good year is probably 7-5. That isn’t enough to get an SEC or B1G job. That’s the pinnacle of the coaching mountain and I suspect we’ll see Chesney there in 5 years.

Absolutely, Ches nailed it as the perfect stepping stone job, and did it without going the FBS OC/DC route, and he gets paid.....Syracuse, and even BC for that matter, are never going to win on a consistent basis and he knew it

How does JMU compare to Syracuse for athletics fund raising? Does JMU have some deep=pocketed boosters?

Boston College is the big loser. If & when Coach Chesney moves on & that is a big if, I suspect ACC Boston C would fall by the wayside as his next coaching destination. ND?Big Ten? SEC? Different by a wide margin. However, Coach Chesney may fall in love w/JMU and even if successful he may opt to finish his career there. It looks like a beautiful setting. Wish him nothing but the best at his beautiful new home, JMU.

A poster on AGS shared that Dean Kennedy is going to be a front runner, assuming he doesn't go to JMU.

Whoever Holy Cross hires he will have huge shoes to fill. Coach did a great job and its impressive Holy Cross made the playoffs four years in a row and this year had another great season with a second place finish.

Since the other thread went on for a ridiculous amount about the band: I’ll start with most logical names. Search should and will likely be focused on probably a half dozen or so names. My best guess: Top Internal: 1) Scott James - possible interim HC while search is conducted? I don’t see him going to VA with Ches. 2) Chris Smith - yes he’s been gone for a year but I consider him an internal candidate. Might Ches approach him for OL or even OC? Odds are likely high. Cigentti took a big chunk of the staff to IU so lots of holes to fill down there. Top External: 1) Dan Curran - Merrimack HC - just signed a contract extension this post season. What does the buyout look like? Respected coach that can recruit and develops tough/physical teams. 2) Mike Toerper - Ithaca HC - Safeties Coach at Holy Cross for two seasons under Chesney (‘20 and ‘21). 21-4 record in first 2 years at IC. Extremely well thought of among both coaches and players. “The next Chesney” according to many. Do a quick you tube search on him and watch his interviews. It will become obvious very quick why folks think he has that “it” factor and is going bigger places now or very soon. 3) Glenn Caruso - St. Thomas (MN) HC - Northeast roots but been at St Thomas for ~15 years with an excellent long term track record. Been on the radar of several HC folks for a while. I believe he was approached for the opening in 2017 but unsure how far it went. 4) Chris Pincince - New Haven HC since 2014 - Holy Cross WR coach then OC 2004-2007. Longer shots that could seek an interview and spent time on the Chesney coaching tree: 1) Rich Gunnell - tough to see someone on the current staff getting the job over James if it goes internal but I think Coach Gunnell will also want to stay in NE rather than VA. 2) Anthony Barese - Bryant DC - Holy Cross DB coach 2018-2019 3) Patrick Murphy - URI OC - Holy Cross OC 2018-2019 I wonder if some Ivy Coordinators get into the mix (Mickey Fein & Mike Willis)

You'd never know you were below the Mason Dixon line.

What about Justin Roper? OC at Furman and prior HC OC.

I wasn't crazy about his offensive play calling this year. doesn't strike me as having the charisma or recruiting necessary. Back the Brinks truck up to MetLife. Or give the shot to former HC position coach Michael Toerper. Roper is a solid choice also. More I think about Reno the less I like that choice. I think we need to retain Anthony DiMichele for recruiting and his personality as well as Scott James. I wouldn't be upset if OCDK went to JMU

Nunzio campanile not a bad option either. Could see him trying to make the leap to an fcs head coach.

Proven success at the FCS level as a head coach.
