I think it depends haze. An open date is welcome if a team is struggling or banged up and needs to rest/practise a 2 extra days to regroup. But have never heard a coach welcome an open date if the team is humming on all cylinders. And generally, open dates are much preferred in the middle/2nd half of the season as opposed to after 2 or 3 games.

I can't decide whether having two weeks off before the FCS playoffs is good because we will be able to get healthy or a problem because we might get rusty.

2017 roster also posted (minus incoming freshmen, of course).
Pujals, Guild, Piker and Murray are listed as returning for a fifth year.

With 74 players listed, how many frosh do we have room to welcome aboard? The question is more complicated than you might think. PL roster limit is 90, plus up to 3 non-recruited walk-ons. I believe there are 3 non-recruited walk-ons on the roster (but not sure -- and I won't name them because I think it is not right to do so). Assuming no attrition among the 74 players listed, this suggests not more than 19 players can be added. But they don't all have to be freshmen.

Good chance we will be <.500 next season. If that happens, the discussion about retaining CTG in the future and for the 2017 season will be interesting.

Just got in a little while ago after a little late night dinnah. It is a good (though daunting) schedule....we could easily be 1-3 or 0-4 out of the gate...this will be Gilmore's last campaign on Mt St James imo.

We're pinning our hopes for next season to a 5th year QB. My concerns are actually not next year which we should survive (at maybe around .500), but the following year. In terms of dominance, without a philosophical overhaul of the program why should we suddenly expect to compete against the power 3? This is not sarcasm, but an actual question. I hope someone up on the hills knows something none of us seem to know. The longer this continues the wider and more insurmountable the gap becomes. Been warning of this for 5 years and counting.

This is a great schedule. Having a handful of 5th year guys will be a big help. Can't wait to be in E. Hartford on 8/31. It's a great stadium.

I think that is correct. My understanding is that the 5th year players skip the spring semester and then finish their education in the fall semester, and past practice has seemed to be that the 5th year players do not participate in spring practice.

there 6 QB's, 3 Srs, on this roster; might we see some reassigned to other positions?

Guild will be there for spring ball. I believe he withdrew from school in the fall.

Joe- That's exactly what I have been saying. The big problem is not next season. It's attempting to transition into harder schedules with a first-year coach in 2018. That first year coach may not have a full first year recruiting period depending on when they let CTG go and how long it takes to replace him. Really disastrous planning.

Also would have been nice to have a more seasoned quarterback heading into a stupidly scheduled week one game at Colgate in 2018 and then a potential beating in week 2 at Chestnut Hill. Season could be in peril right from the get go. Wade would have had next year to tune up but this not be the case assuming Peter stays healthy. Not critiquing, just observing.

Poor planning in general....we basically are eating Gilmore's contract next year but it means we'll be heading into the 2018 season and beyond (with BC, Syracuse, Navy games etc on the docket) with a new staff in place.
Classic case of yet another example of HC being "penny-wise and pound foolish."

No...but it's essentially a fait accompli that we'll be at best, a 4 or 5 win team next year...at some point (unless Gilmore has pictures....which he very well may have) a change for the program will be needed.

Looks like we will have one additional roster space available, as one of our freshman LBs is leaving to walk-on at Syracuse. dailyorange.com/2017/01/syracuse-football-recruiting-holy-cross-freshman-lb-jesse-conners-to-walk-on-at-su/
