Gonzaga, a mid major? Yeah, right.
Ok, no one asked for it, but here's my take on D1: I do divide them into high, mid, and low majors. For me, I base it on the NCAA tourney.
I define a high major conference as:
-one that always has multiple (and usually 4+) teams in the tournament. -regularly has a team in the Final 4. -wins the whole thing at least once a decade.
Mid major -almost always has multiple bids, but more commonly 2-3 than 4+ -has occasional Elite Eight appearances -almost never sends its teams to the Final 4
Low major -almost always a one bid league -Sweet 16 appearances a rarity -almost never in the Elite 8 -no chance of the Final 4
Now, there are certainly teams that do not fit their conference - as mentioned, Gonzaga has been a high major program for years; one might say Northwestern has been a mid-major program in a high major conference.
Just my non scientific look.

Totally right on. That's why we're all frustrated with the PL. A sweet 16 in our lifetime would be a dream come true. No one expects a national championship. For me personally, I would love a more interesting regular season with a few big name home games.
